Let's "start fast" Sunday....

We 've heard it said many times now how we want to start fast. Why don't we come out and go no huddle right from the get go? Catch the Bucs in their base defense and don't let them off the field.
I just want to go for their throats early and often and play with athe lead for a change.

I think you make a good point. We really need to run the ball effectively this week.

The key to this game is keeping Garcia of the field.

Sounds good. The key will be having Fitzgerald hold on to the ball, after Warner hits him for a long gain down the middle of the field on the Cards' first offensive play of the game.

Agreed we can't start slow and get behind by 14 before half if we do bucs will win I think , so we need to set the tone and score early in the 1st qtr to have a good shot to win. GO CARDS BEAT THE BUCKS

I remember that game Trent Green was the Redskins QB...they had the ball late in the game and a chance to win or tie and he threw an INT if I remember correctly.

My father and I were at that game. It was the last time they played in Washington prior to this year. Plummer was an animal, I dont think anyone punted the entire game. Either right before that or right after was the game in Wash where Boomer threw for 500+.

Nov. 10th 1996. 522 yards, third most in league history at the time. May still be. It was the Cards 7th OT win in ten OT games dating from 1993 to 1996.

The Cards are 13-9 in overtime games since moving to Arizona.

Too bad they couldn't have had those winning percentages in games that ended in regulation.

Seems to me that "starting fast" doesn't necessarily mean launching long bombs on our first couple of drives.

Part of our problem has been killing drives with turnovers or dumb penalties early in games or letting penalties or missed assignments sustain our opponents' drives so that they use up a lot of early clock time.

We need to sustain early drives, don't walk away with zero points and stop our opponents from playing "keepaway" with long drives of their own.

We need to become a more steady, relentless football team on offense and more reliable on defense.

(Note - This in turn will make the occasional big play attempt on offense all the more potent).

Without a speed RB or WR, there just won't be many, if any, opportunities at a big play against the cover 2 defense they rarely waver from.

Dink and dunk, slants, throws in the middle, 10 to 20 yds downfield to a TE or WR on a turn-in pattern might have to be our pass play selection menu. Fortunately, Kurt throws the intermediate middle pass well.

If we could run, that would change everything.

I read your post very quickly and you made the point I was prepared to post.
If you watch the Colts games you might note that they run a lot of no huddle and stand at the los for a long time. Obviously Manning is calling a play based on what he is seeing. This might work for us?? Agree, Warner is no Manning but he certainly has seen enough defenses in his career and when he was on St. Louis the opponents did everything they could to try and stop him.

Let's just hope that the injury does not get worse and he can make handoffs without a fumble as a result of his immobile arm.

Unless I didn't see right, I don't think they were in a cover to very much against the Jags...am I wrong??

I think we start with a long 8-10 Minute drive that ends in a field goal after a few penalties.
