Leveon bell gives up $14.5 mil last year by sitting out then turns down a 3yr $45 mil ($15 mil/yr) contract from Steelers last year. Only to take less from the Jets 4yr $52.5 mil at ($13.5 mil/yr). Wht an idiot lost $14.5 mil and got paid less.... Now has NY taxes to boot... hahahahaha

I'm not as much of a Bell hater as others, I actually got some of the issue. Now he has two things going for him - he knows essentially where he's going to live, have a family (unsure if he does), and likely finish his career. That can mean a lot.

I sometimes have sympathy where others don't because I've had some NFL friends that went through that mid-20s uncertainty, and it's hard to think about the money, or the most prudent financial decision when you're young.

His whole goal last year was to reset the market for RBs and then he settles for 35 mil guaranteed.

10 mil less than Gurley and can’t get the 14.5 mil he lost last season

I’m all for players getting paid but Bell needs to fire his agent.

Not even counting the 14.5 guaranteed he left on the table he can never recoup.

Bell no doubt got less money than he was expecting.

Would he take the Steelers offers if he knew this would be the deal in 2017, very likely yes.

Once it came down to 2018, Bell made the safe choice between 14.5 million guaranteed risking an injury Or sit out and get the best possible deal.

It is what it is.

The Jets play in NJ. Not that NJ taxes are any better.

Bell won and good for him. Obviously this is a situation of millionaires squabbling with billionaires, so little sympathy is deserved. But given what NFL players risk on a yearly basis, having something like the "franchise tag" on top of non-guaranteed contracts is absurd. I'm glad to see labor win out over a wildly unfair way of deflating wages.

This.

Fans siding with owners/billionaires in cases like this is sad & pathetic to me honestly.

For tax purposes you have one domicile and perhaps several residences.

He probably will receive his signing bonus at a point when his legal residence is say, Florida, and save s ton.

There are all kinds of ways of finessing the final tax bill.

Here’s the important number for Le’Veon Bell’s deal:

$28M guaranteed at signing.

This likely means a fully guaranteed 2 year contract at $14M per year. It’s a nice deal, all things considered.

Indy should have signed him. I don't get what they're doing. They have more $ available than any team, yet they're sitting pat. Bell would have made that offense amazing with the 1,2 RB combo.

Bell had $14 mill avail last season and let it go...
You can bet he thought he was going to make a lot more

He makes "more" if you consider he would have only got 10 Mio sure and if he gets injured the rest is thin air...

Now he has 28-35 Mio for sure, if he blows out his knee, gets involved in a car crash, his play drops he would get cut and loses out on 60 Mio or more ... and now he gets that money.

Sometimes if you have a family, the thing isn't about how much more you can make but about the things you have for sure. And like the other contract, he can redo the contract after 2 years but will have the 28-35 mio al along.

I understand Bell and understand why he did what he did.

Good for him.

It was 17 million guaranteed in Pitt and now he gets 35 million guaranteed.

Good for him for sticking to his guns. We have all been at jobs and worked for people at times where we felt undervalued and disrespected. Men do what they need to do and leave while certain other types suck it up and stay

Again, to say that Le'Veon Bell is getting $26 million or $27 million over the next years is only part of the story. Through his strategy and plan, he will now make $27 million over three years (2018-2020). $9 million average.

I disagree. It is situational and not absolute.

How do you feel about Albert Haynesworth/Redskins contract situation/outcome?
