Levi is top at the position on our team and he's by far the best L-tackle we had in the running game. It takes a body to address this properly, as you say. Well, who?

Damn. As much crap as Levi gets (and deserves) his loss is huge. I don't know if there is anything out there worth getting, and I don't think we've got a lot on the bench.

i've been saying this since before Levi was drafted- SMUSHDOWN LEVI BROWN- Warner dared teams to blitz and our oline gave up 26 sacks averaging over 600 passes each year while we had the least amount of rushes- rush yards in the NFL. that is 575+ pass attempts a year- Levi went backwards to pass protect rather than forward to roadgrade.( his best skill set)
Joe Thomas couldn't do what levi and this oline Did to the SB and playoffs, not even close. The oline graders and can kiss my big red AZ.
I have been the only Card fan I remeber to praise Levi many years, until he sind a cheaper contract. That is our culture. Our fan culture sucks.

Yes, but Bridges will have to man the left and Massey at the right, if my roster assumptions are correct.
Levi is an outstanding run blocker and a piss-poor pass blocker. Whatever you grade things at, if you don't take that into account then your grading scale sucks.

Injuries are a fact of life (This isn't the first time a key player has been known to fall).
This is where, on winning teams, little known backups have to step up (There are no Mulligans in the NFL - You still have to play the games).
We can hope that the extra reps Batiste, Young, Jeremy or Potter will now get will pay off in improved play.

People being so nonchalant about Levi going down irritate me. Because they hate him, or are disgusted by the fact that we didn't get AP, they somehow convince themselves it's a good thing. You'll be the same ones bitching even more than usual about pass protection. You act like we can just plug and play dudes.

This is a huge loss, more than people realize. I've defended Levi since I came to this board. I'll keep defending him. His mistakes were often-times huge (false starts at really crucial times or giving up a pressure or sack during those bad times), but those were situational. What he was was consistent (totally consistent). On our line, he was like the rock of Gibraltar. Love him or hate him, he was always there working his ass off and playing at the same talent level each game.
Consistency. More than anything, that's what you need from a LT. Mistakes, yes. He made a lot of them, I don't deny that. But he was consistent and always there. Never injured (until now, and I feel really bad for the guy).

Levi may be the only point we agree on. For people who say we should have drafted AP, I'll always say what has he won? Levi went to multiple playoff games and a SB then more playoffs. His experience level is off the charts at that position compared to AP. He's more decorated too, in my opinion. AP can have all the rushing titles and whatever, but Levi went to many playoff games and a SB and you can't simulate that experience.
I've said this before, but don't care: AP's career (especially now with his injury) is about half what Levi's will be. That was before his injury, but it's probably still true.
I'm with you on most of that brotha, but our running game in 2008 playoffs was destructive. In the playoffs, Edge was the single most important factor in my opinion. His rushes for 16, 18, 15 whatever it was, to start those games, that was paramount. It sucked all the defenders and LB's in and took them out of dime coverage and in some cases nickel coverage. He was the key for the play-actions we did later and the flea-flicker and the trick plays. Edge set that all up.
This year with Williams and Beanie, we have a good chance of doing that again.
Point is though, Levi isn't replaceable. If he were, believe me they would have. We have nobody on this roster able to do his job consistently. It's going to be a painful year in my opinion because of it.

Bottom line, Levi is a boss when it comes to run-blocking. He is a road-grading mean nasty cuss. But when put on his heels, he is far below average and gets beat like a drum.
And right now, we are at our core a running team with Bean and RW and LSH, so losing Levi and his STRENGTH of run blocking is a devastating blow. But don't ever pretend he was an asset in the passing game. He was the weakest link there, which is what got him the turnstile reputation he has today.

3/4 of your post was about Warner. You can't compare a HOF QB to anyone. Not anyone. They're badass and there's a reason. You can't compare them to current QB's and especially past QB's. Yes, Warner was a tough SOB, very freaking tough, he'd get hit over and over again, get up slowly and then murder them the next drive. Yes, he had a super-quick release, because he knew what the defense was doing before they even relayed it to each other. That's a HOF QB man. That's what they do. They're badass. I read somewhere that less than 1% of all football players are in the HOF. Extraordinary. QB's make up a fraction of that. KW will be one of them.
Can't really compare KW to anyone, given those #'s.
And if you think losing Levi won't hurt us, you're mistaken. Losing Levi may have just ruined our season. Our Oline wasn't that good with him. It's worse without him. Now we're plugging dudes and trying to catch up. Losing Levi is much huger than anyone acknowledges.

We have nobody on the roster that can play LT that I have seen. Maybe Colledge. It looks like we will have to bring in a free agent like Chad Clifton or who ever is out there. This is really bad news. Riley Reif would really look good about now as our number one draft pick.

Man you need to listen to more sportscasters and watch more passin highlights, You can not Judge the Cards Oline by traditional measurement - even Glanvilles run and shoot had more runs.
your eyetest was the the 26 sacks not the other 575 pass attempts! Levi defended more passes than any tackle in history over that course of time -THT only had 143 carrys as a starter in both 08 and 09.
and yes there were somw ugly misses but this is the first good things I've seen posted about Levi Brown by fans not me in - well forever- A litttle positive when he re-signed cheap. but they were mostly back handed compliments.
The pressure was squarely on Levi and the oline pass protection every down- The Cards lived and died by it- and we sent to our first SB and playoffs. We were last in rush attempts, yardage, But i do agree Levi was a run blocker- but He rarely got to run block!
Regardless He will be missed but it is the next man up and we have some rookies in the oven. I'm glad we got Bridges, Batiste, Massie and we can always find Herman Johnson and Keith from their couches.

You continue to have it all wrong.
I like Levi and he is an average NFL tackle, but unlike Herman Johnson and Brandon Keith, who were lower round draft choices, Levi was taken with the 5th pick in the 2007 draft.
It is not unreasonable for fans to want and expect more from a player drafted in that position and paid that type of money.
If Levi was drafted in the 5th round like Johnson or in the 7th like Keith most fans would not have a lot of problems with him.
I think it is reasonable to think that we could have had Peterson who has been to like what, 5 Pro-Bowls? I also lament the fact that we got Levi when Joe Thomas went a few picks earlier.
It's not that he's a bad guy or even a completely terrible player, he just hasn't met expectations for a player selected with the 5th pick in any draft.
I still laugh when people lament not getting Peterson. 5 pro bowls? Levi's been to, what is it, 5 playoff games and a SB, something like that? How many playoff games has Peterson been to? How many SB's?
Sure, Levi has under-performed, but even at his mediocre performance, during his entire career he'll still provide much more value than a RB, even a great one like Peterson. That's just a fact. Levi will play, on average, twice as long as Peterson, and so far he's already killed him, just destroyed him, when it comes to playoff games and SB games. And believe me, Peterson isn't getting better anymore, he's already hit his peak. Levi still has a chance to improve, and it seemed like he was before his injury.
Lamenting not getting Peterson is still a joke in my opinion. In today's NFL I'll take a LT any day of the freaking week. They play for 10-15 years, a RB plays for like 5 as a starter. The whole comparison is a total joke.
(Edit: Not only that, I should add, you get a dude like Peterson we probably don't keep Fitz, or Adub, or Campbell, or Dockett, or all the dudes we love. It's a dumb proposition. This isn't a running league, it's not 1950)

It could have been worse. It could have been a game like...the infamous Minnesota preseason game. Thankfully JUST Levi went down.
MISTAKE 1: I was responding to thesmel, whose argument was SOLELY about Warner. That is what I was specifically addressing and why. With Warner, the pass pro aspect of Levi was shrouded because of Warner's ability.
MISTAKE 2: I didn't say it wouldn't. In fact, I called out SPECIFICALLY that because Levi is a badass run blocker, and our team is built right now to establish the run with very good RBs, that his loss is devastating. He's by far the best run blocker on the line, and one of the better run blockers in the league, and it will hurt bad with him out. But he isn't, never was and never will be a good pass pro guy. He's good moving forward, but not on his heels.
