Hearing Levi Brown didn't stick out during the off-season, raising some eyebrows going into camp. Nate Potter could get a chance to start.

Interesting to say the least.

Nate Potter was awful last season as a blocker--in both the running and the passing game.

In 8 games and six starts, Potter allowed 7 sacks, committed 1 penalty and notched an astonishing 14 blown blocks in pass pro.

From my tape review during the season, the Cards didn't even bother running to Potter's side.

For comparison's sake, D'Anthony Batiste allowed 8 sacks and 25.5 blown pass blocks in 10 starts.

And Potter was also a late round rookie who had Russ Grimm as his coach. Not to mention, he has put on some bulk this offseason.

Once the season starts, I don't really care so much about out-performing expectations based on draft status (remember that in the pre-draft process Potter was considered as high as a second-round pick) as much as I do about on-field results.

Didn't Levi Brown also have Russ Grimm as a head coach? Also, wasn't Brown on a training bike for most of OTAs as he recovered from his injury?

I'd like a link substantiating the assertion that Potter gained bulk this offseason.

No surprise. Levi has slow moving feet and no off the ball quickness. On a team that going to be throwing it 60% or more times they need a player who can move with quickness. Not saying it will be Potter but they team sure likes him.

Lets freaking hope not for #3s sake!!! :D

I've gotta say to add to MJs comments...Levi didn't stick out during the offseason because bullets weren't flying & edge rushers weren't blowing by him on a regular basis..yet! Lol

I'm curious to see how Potter looks as well as Massie; both of whom had to learn on the fly last season under Grimm's "tutelage."

Also good to see Levi have to put in some work for the job rather than having it given back to him.

What, didn't Levi keep the stationary bike RPMs above 80 enough? How else could they judge him?

How does he go from "elite" to "not sticking out" while pedaling a bike and rehabbing? But, consider the source.

Plus, Nate Potter stinks. He'll probably be as good an OT as Fred Wakefield was.

Any reference to Fred Wakefield will get one of these:

A lot of mis-information in this thread IMO.

Is Levi practicing at all or on a bike?

Secondly, Potter came in the 1st couple games as a 6th round rookie and was awful. The back half of his games were miles better than anyone else manning to position at LT last year. For a 6th round rookie to just be thrown into the fire with virtually no prep, i was impressed. I hope hes not Cards best option, but id give him a shot if need be.

Lastly, where does it say Potter put on weight? I didnt see that one anywhere?

He was held out of a lot of the OTAs --Minicamp stuff so as not to hamper his rehab from the injury . If he is not 100% clear of the injury/surgery , I would be surprised if they start him . I guess we will see how things look for Sept.8 as Sept 1 rolls around .

I think it is speculation. Bruce Arians was on Sirius NFL yesterday. I caught part of the interview. He said the Levi did not practice most of OTA's. He only got in a couple days at the end and looked "pretty rusty". He made some comment about having to get through the rust in order to polish a stone (or something like that). Interestingly, Nate Potter was one of the first players that BA mentioned when asked about players standing out in OTA's.

IMO Potter made solid progress between his first start and his final game last season. I would have no problem with him as a starter. In fact I'd rather see him the Colledge at guard. As for Brown we will see, I hope that he can come back strong, because he played very well when he got hurt.

Brown has been known to be a slow starter and coming off a year where he missed the whole season, it simply doesn't surprise me that he is rusty.

I too think it's motivation and a warning that a new head coach and new GM won't give him any favors.
