I had not read anything stating that Bucannon was still rehabbing or nicked up at the beginning of the league year.

IMO it is a dirty move by the Cardinals as Deone doesn't seem to be a problem in the locker room and I have never heard of him not being a hard worker. You treat a guy like that in this way during a contract year, it has ramifications.
I don’t think it’s “dirty” - I don’t think they’re out to get him. I just think it’s stupid.

Pretty much all of them. From day one he would publicly call out the players for making mistakes, etc. But never blamed himself or his coaches. It was ALWAYS the players fault
I have never loved Bettcher, but the only coach I ever felt like Arians protected was Amos. With the players he was very critical, but every report from the players was that he was fair and even with his critiques.

Two things that I disliked about Arians was his support of Amos and his development of young players. However, I can't say that those things weren't outweighed by the positives he brought.

In the yes of players and agents, it doesn't matter. You are impacting players bank accounts by intention or ignorance, and neither are a valid excuse.

Man, remember this?

I bristled when people asserted that Deone Bucannon was, like, really good (better than Dansby or Washington). He's not really good. But he's a servicable football player, and I don't understand how he can't get on the field ahead of Gerald Hodges, who is the definition of a journey man.

Who is this defense highlighting?

Great post and I agree. Bucannon has had his ups and downs, which is expected of a serviceable NFL player. It's up to Wilks to figure out a way to make these guys work.

K9, even I can’t believe you’re taking this position. Arians coaches were infallible, it was always the players’ fault.

I'm fine with Arians standing by his coaches. The most ridiculous he looked was when he said he wasn't going to fire Amos Jones. I don't know if he ever went so far as to say that Jones was GOOD, though.

Basic Rule of Personnel Moves -

Does the move benefit the team.

As of now, Bucc and Riddick are still on the roster and will remain playing options until they're off the roster.

As of now, there don't appear to be trade or waiver possibilities that the coaches feel will benefit the team.

In other words, the iights may be off but there's still the remote possibility they can be turrned back on.

When there are only 31 NFL special teams coaches in the world wouldn’t you say that keeping him employed in that role at a minimum implies that?

Someone has to be below average.
In the league, yes. But there are a myriad of prospects not employed in the league. Is Amos one of the best 31 in the WORLD? I mean that’s what Arians is stating by employing him over the other billions of people likely more qualified. I’d say top 31 in the WORLD has to be defined as “one of the good ones.”

Honest question, how are the Browns STs playing this year?

They’re last in DVOA. Hue already has fired a kicker, who has cost them (perhaps) two games.

I mean, Amos was bad, but not so bad that he had to become a secondary coach or something.

I just don’t think that sticking by Amos really makes him less desirable than the staff we have right now.

Certainly not less desirable than what we have now. I don’t think anyone is saying that. Many were ready for change, but when you want change you’re hoping for improvement but have to accept that you might get worse. You place your faith in professionals like mike b and Keim to do the former not the latter. Seems they failed us.
