The Cards must be counting on some big names to be released June 1.

That kinda defeats the purpose of franchising him in the first place, no? We lose him with no compensation whatsoever.

Doesn't defeat the purpose at all. Gives us a chance to get something for Davis. If nothing works out and we still don't want to keep him, we can cut him. That eliminates the risk. If we don't franchise him, we have no chance of getting anything in return.

Re Davis: I already said my two cents and see there is not one poster to respond with a realistic alternative...

The Cardinals should be and likely, I think, will be working on Hayes extension this season.

Dansby's situation is a little more tenuous, all depending upon the causes and resolution of his "injury/holdout" drama that occured earlier this year. Only someone with true inside information could know the status here. It appears on the outside that it has been resolved but

Regarding Macklin: I would like the Cardinals to keep him here. But the starting corners are now and, in lieu of unforseen circumstance such as injury, etc., for the forseeable future will be Antrell Rolle and Eric Greene. (I am beginning to think Greene may be the better corner of the two, but I like them both.) So Macklin would be kept as a #3 at best; chances are he will be playing elsewhere next year.

All the others are non-critical and will be dependent upon the individuals expectations as compared to the teams. If they and the team are in agreement as to worth and value (not the same thing) then re-sign them. If not, so long...

What about Darling vs. Huff? If it came to only one of the two which one would you re-up?? I think might go with Darling, but I would need a strong young backup in the wings...

Cue the delusional "Sign Dwight Freeney and Lance Briggs" threads.

FWIW while reading the chicago boards last week it's quite clear Bears fans

1) Think Briggs is gone.

2) Think Briggs is highly overrated, he's too slow they say, and misses too many tackles.

I guess there's some story that says if the Bears let him walk, he's going to sign with the dolphins. I forget the connection but there was one.

Briggs apparently demanded way more money than the Bears are willing to give him and basically cut off talks when the Bears balked.

We would be crazy not to franchise him ! What is 10 million when you are this far under the cap and I guarantee you someone will give up a late 1st or early second round pick for him. The Cardinals can no longer just let talent walk out the door and there has to be at least 1 GM out there that think there coach can turn him around. I would like to see Dansby and Hayes locked up and the franchise tag placed on Davis.
