I wouldn't trade Patrick Peterson for all the cheese in Wisconsin. He is going to be a hall of famer, and we have at least 2 wins to thank him for just from this season. Once in a lifetime player.

Maybe, just maybe this franchise has wised up a little bit. I mean Terrill Suggs for Calvin Pace and Bryant Johnson? Adrian Peterson for Levi Brown? I doubt it though --- DRC and a second for Kevin Kolb?

Welcome LionsFanVisiting - you have a really interesting up-&-coming team that's fun to follow (even if I don't root for them).

Regarding Cardinal "needs", I can list the apparent ones (i.e. OT, Another OT, Pass Rusher, Dominant NT) but this doesn't mean that the Cardinal brass necessarily feels the same way many of us do.

Plus - there's more than one way to skin a cat (for example, the coaches may feel it's more cost and player-efficient to develop a couple of young pass rushers than it is to draft one high. Or they may prefer free agency or trades rather than the Draft to fill their needs).

Then there's the age-old "Need" vs. "BPA" debate. (The Cards say that they employ a hybrid approach whereby "position need" and "system fit" are built into a prospect's overall rating before he's slotted into the BPA "big board." And there's always a bit of flexibility which gives the GM latitude to choose from 4 or 5 closely-rated BPA prospects on the basis of position-need.

And - sometimes a front office may say they favor one philosophy only to turn around and do the opposite (i.e. Levi Brown vs. Adrian Peterson - which one would you consider to be the BPA)?

Finally (as an aside) - Many moons ago (when Dave McGinnis was HC) the Cards not only targeted players by position-need; they'd draft each player one round earlier than he was rated (in order to "make sure" they got him). Problem was - when you evaluated their entire draft during each of those McGinnis years, the Cards were getting one round's less value for each of their picks than they should have. Since then (starting with Dennis Green) the overall approach has been to do the opposite - to "draft for value" based on the highest remaining player on our board. (i.e. draft a "round one-rated" player if he falls to you in rounds 2 or 3). That's how we wound up with Daryl Washington and Ryan Williams for example.

Stick around; we'll make you a Cardinal fan yet.

If we ignore that we were running a 4-3 at the time and Suggs was considered a "tweener" who didn't fit the scheme... then, of course, it was Suggs for Pace and Johnson. If we ignore that Peterson had broken his collarbone, was considered injury prone by some on this board... then, yes, it was Brown over Peterson. DRC and a second for Kolb... jury still out.

Hey guys, new here. HUGE Lions fan. Being that is the offseason for all but NE and NY, i thought id join this forum to talk football and learn a little about Cardinals football. First off, aint it nice to go into an offseason and NOT worry about the CBA?!

Im just kinda curious what the state of the Cardinals franchise is. What is the teams biggest needs going into the offseason. Is there a favorite player every Cardinals fan wants in the draft?

Ive heard some say QB, OL..

Being a Lions fan, it seems "team needs" is the biggest topic lol. Of course, we had a good year this year, but there still is a lot of room for improvement if the Lions want to go any further.

I hope you dont mind me hanging around until the draft and joining in some discussions.

Thanks guys!

Until we get a legit NFL QB there is not much to talk about. I think the trade for Kolb was one of the worst ever. After him we have a young guy named Skelton who did show some promise and I think won 6 out of 8 games he played. What will be his future is unknown. Kolb is due to be paid I think 26 million unless we cut him by March. We will see just how much they think of him when it is time to sign that check. It is most difficult for Mr. B to lift that check writing hand sometimes.

What interest do I have? I guess nothin much in particular, just thought id learn a little about them. I was rooting for them against the Steelers a few years ago in the SB.

You guys seemed to have had a decent year. Last time I was in Detroit all the peole talked about the Red Wings. Now you have Prince Fielder who should love that right filed short porch and should be the talk of Detroit. He is surely big enough to play linebacker or maybe on the defensive line in case he has trouble hitting. Wow, 9 year contract at near 200 million.

Would you quit saying this... it isn't true.

At the end of 2012, Kolb will have made $20M, and that would be the monetary cost if cut at that point. If he's on the team beyond 2012 it's because his play has warranted the continuation of the agreement.

Yes we all are pretty happy as Detroit fans. Im a big Wings fan so im usually rooting them on, but as far as Prince Im very excited. A lot of people wonder how Cabrera will do at 3rd base, but we'll see. Guess hes lost like 30 pounds. So hes definetely trying to get better for that position.

Yet, you don't list CB as a need for the Lions??

No i dont, and thats not saying the Lions have great CBs, just IMO not worth a 1st rounder. They signed Eric Wright when the CBA finally got finished, and he played decent at best. It was our SAFETIES that caused the most headaches. Amari Spievey was a CB in college and converted to safety after being drafted in 2010. He has been horrible and needs replaced. Louis Delmas=overrated. Some think hes a stud. Some think hes pro bowl material. YA RIGHT. Hes bad in coverage, takes horrible angles, is ALWAYS hurt. He always goes for the big hit to wow the crowd, but whiffs most the time instead of making the sure tackle.

Yes, the CB's could use an upgrade, but the safeties could use an overhaul.

as opposed to Pace, who didn't fit the scheme and was actually a 3-4 OLB? And johnson who was just flat out horrendous and an incredible reach in the first round?

If we ignore that Peterson had broken his collarbone, was considered injury prone by some on this board... then, yes, it was Brown over Peterson.

lol... is this serious?

DRC and a second for Kolb... jury still out.

this i have no problem with.

Recognizing that Pace was not a 4-3 D-end was an after the fact realization by all. And, yes - there were some on this board who had reservations about Peterson because, as they said: "He's injury prone."
