ALLLEN PARK, Mich. -- The Detroit Lions have fired wide receivers coach Bobby Williams, the second time in about 14 months he has been removed from a coaching job.
The team also fired defensive line coach George Dyer and said the contract of offensive line coach Carl Mauck will not be renewed.
The Lions ended their 5-11 season Sunday with a 30-20 win over St. Louis, but Detroit's offense has struggled consistently all season and its defense often has been awful.
All three coaches were hired by former Lions head coach Marty Mornhinweg, who was fired in late January 2003. Mauck spent three years with the Lions, while Dyer and Williams joined the team early in January 2003.
Williams was dismissed by Michigan State in early November 2002, two days after the Spartans lost 49-3 to Michigan. Williams was Michigan State's first black head coach.
Didn't Carl Mauck used to coach for the Cards?
