I thought I'd start a "do you remember" thread on valley artists. Anybody out there remember the Westfall brothers. I had a 45 when I was just entering my teen years of a minor local hit called Dusty (flip side was something about a car or a jalopy IIRC). They used to be pretty big in the valley and I think I remember seeing them on the Wallace & Ladmo Show. They were billed as Floyd and Jerry. I saw them play once in Prescott but I know the played all over the state. Ring a bell for anyone?

Grey Daze with Chester Bennington of Linkin Park fame as the front man, and Bionic Jive are 2 of the biggest local bands of my younger days.

There's a very nice exhibit on AZ music at the Musical Instrument Museum right now.

(I didn't know about Wallace and Ladmo until I moved here. The MIM has a clip of them doing the Sgt Pepper take-off that makes me wish I had.)

Flotsam and Jetsam, Sacred Reich, The Generiks, Dr. Devine, Phunk Junkees, Psychic Pawn and Mizery were some of my faves from the 90's.

Was "Bam-Bam" the drummer for both of those bands?

The Gin Blossoms and the Refreshments got all the pub, but it was Dead Hot Workshop that had people calling Tempe the "next Seattle." A&R reps would show up at every show. Never cared for that music and I blamed them for killing the jazz scene at Chuy's, but if you were of age in the 90s in Tempe, you knew who DHW was.

R.I.P. Joseph Vito Albanese, amazing bassist for For Phx punk pioneers The Brainz, then Mighty Sphincter, prog instrumental trio the Godwads. He was one of the victims in last week's Seattle shooting spree. A madman killed 5 people, among them Joe's partner in his current band God's Favorite Beefcake. Look him up on Facebook...

If anybody remembers the Generiks, they're having a free 25th anniversary show at the Lost Leaf downtown tomorrow at 8pm sharp. (Sat. 6/23) All the original members will be there as well as the later additions. Should be a good time. Come thirsty.

Phunk Junkeez - haven't heard them in years. I thought Chronic Future were going to hit it big when I was a teenager, but they never made it (maybe it was just because I grew up in Scottsdale and they had a song called "Scottsdale" that the Edge played for a few weeks).
