And why add even more pressure to the young guy you're throwing in there by telling everyone that you will have "a quick hook" with the kid?

Sounds like an inexperienced head coach.
I'm fairly confident BA knows how to handle players. He said Lindley basically hung tough right after the game. Then the next day, after watching hours of pathetic tape, he benched him, rightly so. Lindley's lucky to even be on the team right now--without our injuries he'd be gone.

The quick hook comment doesn't add pressure. It tests a dudes heart. If Logan has a bad game he can easily call his own hook by sucking worse than Lindley, which is hard to do. If Logan sucks the whole game, as long as his demeanor isn't Jay Cutlerish, I expect he'll play the entire game. The hook comment could additionally be an admission that he stuck too long with Lindley and won't put the team in that position again.

I will say this: it's virtually impossible to play worse than Lindley. I'm sure Logan will come close, but it's hard to do. It takes an iron will and a total lack of awareness to suck as bad as Lindley.

Arians optimistic Stanton will return for the playoffs

Arians said on SiriusXM NFL Radio that there’s an 85 percent chance that Stanton will be ready for Arizona’s first playoff game, which will likely be on the road against the winner of Sunday’s Panthers-Falcons game.

He’s going to practice some this week, and we’ll see how he goes,” Arians said of Stanton, via ESPN.com. “Do not plan on playing him this week unless it was absolutely necessary.”

Arians said he’s not benching Lindley, he just wants to see how well Thomas runs the offense.

“It doesn’t have anything to do with how Ryan played last week. I need to find out what Logan can do going into the playoffs,” Arians said.

I'm hoping Thomas fares better than Manziel did in his first start.

Poor Arians. Playing Thomas this season is the absolute last thing he wanted to do bc he knows better than anybody that the guy isn't ready, but he has no choice. Lindley is an absolute disaster and he's praying that Thomas can do better, which he probably can't. BA and Keim really screwed the pooch on this one. We should have signed Rex Grossman as soon as Palmer went down bc Stanton is injury prone. Can't believe we brought Lindley back.

Rex Grossman said no to the Browns and it's because his heart isn't into playing FB anymore.

I really don't know if the pooch wasn't going to get screwed no matter what retread or cast off they tried to sign.

Logan Thomas settles down after shaky start to practice

Things were a bit rocky out of the gate on Wednesday. Coach Bruce Arians termed Thomas’s outing “shaky” in the early portion of practice, something that Thomas agreed with while also agreeing with Arians that “it got better and better” as he took more reps. Thomas said that it is different learning the offense as the third-stringer he’s been for much of the season and actually executing it, something Arians indicated would be the rookie’s biggest challenge.

“He’s worked, fundamentally, extremely hard and gotten much better,” Arians said, via ESPN.com. “But putting those fundamentals to use in the offense, that’s two totally different things.”

He's a rookie and he's raw it's going to be bad.

I don't know what you'll see out of this other than bad. When rookies start on teams that otherwise are Super Bowl contenders it's just usually, well bad.

It's one thing when the team sucks and the rookie's future is the only bright spot but this is almost not worth it here.

I think what you'll see isn't much one way or another, other than a rookie getting thrown in towards the end of a season in a junk game.

It probably won't hurt to get him some experience on the other hand if he's starting in the playoffs all hope is essentially lost anyhow so it's just a weird time to worry about this.

Agree Conrad. Even though he'll be thrown to the wolves and I really have little expectations for Logan's play, I've seen all of Lindley I want to see.

He did actually say that he was happy with Lindley's play, but unhappy about the play from others.

Relative or not, it's an odd thing to say and then replace the one guy you claimed to be happy with. Following that up with saying that you are unhappy with others and those "others" lost the game.

That's how coaches lose a locker room.

What BA really meant was he was happy Lindley did not pass for 7 more INTs to add to his NFL record of mediocrity.

Sort of the same when BA said Levi Brown was a franchise left tackle and then had Keim trade Brown to the Steelers after Brown proved beyond a doubt to BA that he wasn't a franchise or even third string left tackle. BTW, Steelers cut him before OTAs this year and he is out of the NFL. Guess Lindley will be out of the NFL as well in the near future.

This. Our only hope is the element of surprise and that the niners have either given up on the season or want to screw seattle more than they want to beat us.

I think we all did a good job of selling each other on Lindley last week but the reality was that he was/is a practice squad QB....just like LT is a rookie QB, and a project one at that.

I will say that it is probably a good game for him to start. Low expectations, not much to lose with a loss, playing a team that is done for the season and a coach that will be gone a week from now, jo chance of being booed by the home crowd (I dont think that would happen but you never know), etc.

One practice! MT @kentsomers: Arians uses the "quick hook" w/ Logan Thomas. Will go back to Ryan Lindley as starter for Sunday's game.

Arians did say Monday not only that he'd have "quick hook" for Thomas, but that practice play could be the first hook.

Everything seems fine in Cardinal-land. What could possibly go wrong.

Its almost beyond belief that they didn't bring in a veteran qb. Thomas and Lindley know the system so well that they can't even run it effectively in practice apparently. If Stanton isn't ready for the playoffs (it sounds like he should be thankfully) we just screwed ourselves from even competing for a playoff win this year.

Let LT play. Lindley sucks big time and it's a wasted opportunity for LT to get experience.

Game will be miserable to watch with Lindley in there, ugh

I guess I'm not understanding why the announcement about Thomas starting was even made in the first place. Why make it public then go through the circus of changing it? Seems counterproductive... why tell the world I'm starting and then tell me I suck in practice and yank the rug out from under me? Tell me I ain't ready and be done with it.

True we've seen how Lindleys "good" practices have translated into games
but Thomas couldn't even look good in practice apparently. Thats pretty damning.

I am very disappointed in the FO and BA.

If LT is this raw then we should have brought in a QB that gives us a chance to win, not a piece of garbage like Lindley.

A retread like Rex Grossman or Charlie Batch can at least manage a game and throw a decent pass.

I am not happy with this team blowing a chance to improve our record and the handling of this whole QB situation.

Starting Lindley against the Niners is a shock to me. I'd rather start anybody else at this point in time.
