LOL! Pistons hold Jason Kidd and the Nets to 56 points.

I know hindsight is 20/20, but man I wish the Suns would have taken my guy, Tayshaun Prince instead of Casey Jacobsen.

I was pushing for Boozer.

The Pistons have shown just how impressive a strong defense can be. The Nets shot 27% from the field and were out rebounded 48-29. Jason Kidd's Nets had only 12 assists (Kidd had half of them). Jefferson went 1 of 12, Martin 4 of 11, Kidd 4 of 13, Rogers 0 of 6.

Pretty impressive.

I watched the game, and it was really satisfying to see the nets get their asses kicked. Unlike most people, I enjoy watching the Pistons. They are a great defensive team, and it is a real pleasure to watch them.

Maybe a yawner to most, but I love seeing one of the best defenses in a long time in the NBA.

I didn't mind the game as long as the Nets loose or the lakers.

Now when two years passed everybody seems to be such a great expert. Before 2002 you haven't even mentioned Prince's name as your favourite pick.
Chaplin did as his.

I remember that one of your favourite players (as #22) was Ryan Humhprey.

That's just not true. I did like Humphrey early on, but I wanted the Phoenix Suns to draft Tayshaun Prince, especially the night of the draft. When it was time for the Phoenix Suns to pick I was calling for Prince. Frankly I think I'm in a better position to remember who I wanted than you are.

I have to admit that I was not terribly aware of Prince (he was just another late first round "who's he" to me), but I was really shocked that Boozer was not taken until the #35th pick. Robert Archibald went at #32!.

Taking Jacobsen made sense, even if he is not developing like we would prefer. But he is at least contributing.

24. Nenad Krstic Partizan-Yugoslavia New Jersey (not in the league)
25. Frank Williams Illinois Denver (with Knicks - 12.8 minutes)
27. Chris Jefferies Fresno State LA Lakers (Bulls - 9.8 minutes)
28. Dan Dickau Gonzaga Sacramento (Blazers - 6.8 minutes)
30. Steve Logan Cincinnati Golden State (not in the league)
31. Roger Mason Virginia Chicago (Raptors - 12.6 minutes)
32. Robert Archibald Illinois Memphis (Raptors - 8.2 minutes)
33. Vincent Yarbrough Tennessee Denver (not in the league)

After Prince, the only guys who have done much are Salmons (averages about 20 minutes a game), Gadzuric, Boozer, and hopefully Vujanic.

Prince and Boozers would have been great pickups, but the Suns could have done a lot worse. Casey for all his flaws is doing better than several guys taken ahead of him:

5. N. Tskitishvili Benetton Treviso-Italy Denver
6. Dajuan Wagner Memphis Cleveland
12. Melvin Ely Fresno State LA Clippers
15. Bostjan Nachbar Benneton Treviso-Italy Houston
18. Curtis Borchardt Stanford Orlando
19. Ryan Humphrey Notre Dame Utah
21. Qyntel Woods NE Mississippi CC Portland

Nenad Krstic should be good. He is coming to the Nets next season for sure. Ford said Vlade had him put his name in the draft early as a favor to the Kings, but NJ got to him first.

I do believe Joe Mama mentioned Tayshaun Prince several times. I go back and forth all the time - I believe on Draft night, I wanted Gadzuric. I did want Stoudemire or Wilcox. I don't remember all the players I listed on this board but not uncommon to change your mind. I don't think I even mentioned Gadzuric but he did dominate along with Dirk Nowitzki against USA in Hoops Summit (I'm obsessive with game-film? :p - I did lose tape or taped over it though).

This year - I've gone from Dwight Howard, Emeka Okafor, Andre Iguodala, Andris Biedrins, etc. If I had a choice right now at #7 - small: Iguodala - big: Biedrins. Kirk Synder if trade down - Christian Drejer, Romain Sato, or Herve Lamizana in 2nd Round. Michel Morandais: Undrafted.

I'm definitely going to keep track of who I "want" with the Suns pick this year. I do remember that, when the Suns took Stoudemire, I didn't really like anyone. I think I was leaning, reluctantly, toward Jared Jeffries.

And I also remember not liking the Jacobsen pick at all. But I don't remember who I wanted instead. So, unlikely everyone else, I can't claim to have been the smartest kid in class on draft day.

I do wonder how certain people can make that claim when they weren't even members of this board then. Boasts of unusual foresight should at least be documentable.

I wasn't a member back when the suns chose that year (I think I joined at the beginning of last season), but I know I wanted Wilcox, then Stoudemire. Perhaps a trade up for Nene, but I wasn't pushing for it.

I still think that Wilcox could have done similar things as Amare last year had he been on the suns and playing 30 minutes a night. I don't think he has the drive to be better like Amare, but I still think he will make a good pro.

For the second pick, when it was coming up, I remember thinking, "Ok, there are 2 picks before the Suns, Kareem Rush AND Qyntel Woods are still there, please let one of them fall to us." Of course my friend called it when at the beginning the annoucners mentioned Casey was in the green room, and someone must have given a promise (he said the suns did, without any knowledge of Jacobson)

Anyways, can you guys imagine if Rush had fallen? Talk about the shooter we actually needed. Hell, even Woods has shown flashes (He was actually listed as the #1 pick back in like Feb.)

I didn't want Boozer or Gadzuric, simply becuase we were going to draft a forward with our #9. I didn't really know anything about Prince either. I wasn't really upset about the Casey pick, just upset the guys I wanted didnt fall.

I remember being interested in Woods and amazed that he had fallen so far. But I didn't think the Suns would take him even if he was available, because of his drug questions.

But yeah, Rush would have been great. I couldn't understand what the Raptors were thinking with that trade, based on what reports said about Rush's shooting.

Same here. I actually thought Rush would be even better than he has been so far for the Lakers. I really liked him his sophomore year (I believe it was his sophomore year) at Missouri.

I know that Nene was my favorite with the #9 pick.

Say what you will about a minimum age limit, but at least it would make the NBA draft more interesting for us. We would probably get to see many of these top draft picks several times before they make the jump. We wouldn't have to rely so heavily on these online scouting reports and "leaks" from the predraft workouts.

It was an odd draft. I did not expect Amare to go until #14 or #15 and I had Wilcox as my pick. I honestly thought Jeffries would be a good player but was a bit scared off by him being too skinny.

My pick for the second slot was Boozer although after taking Amare I was not surprised they went for a guard. That was a need pick in that Casey was a great college shooter. I still think he could evolve into a Chris Mullen type player but Mullen played before the college three point line and started with a wider range of shots.

Let me see, whom did I like? :p

Last year, I liked Kendrick Perkins and Boris Diaw. I liked Barbosa, too, but everybody liked Barbosa, and I was fine with Zarko because the Suns' brass thought he was hot stuff.

In 2002, I was hoping for Nene, with Wilcox as my second choice. When the Suns drafted Amare, my first thought was, "Thank God, they didn't take Jared Jeffries". For the second pick, I wanted Tayshaun Prince (I thought he could play SG if need be) but I was happy with Casey Jacobsen over Boozer or Gadzuric.

In 2000, I was thrilled we got Big Jake IIRC. I remember hoping for Jonathon Bender to drop to us in 1999.

I don't remember forming any pre-draft opinions before 1996...

I really liked Chris Wilcox then. I still think that he will turn to a good pro.
Same for Melvin Ely.

I haven't seen Amare or Nene, based on reports I liked them but who didn't?

I wasn't impressed from Jefferies, he was too average in every aspect of the game.
I liked the maturity and versatility of Prince and the athleticism and hustle of Gadzuric.
I didn't really want Boozer at #22 because I thought that his teammates made him better. I still think that he is a complementary player but a very very good one which is much more what you can expect from a #22 pick.

I was very happy that Suns didn't pick Haislip at #9 and Dickau at #22.
I was shocked that Fred Jones went at #14.

I hoped that Suns' excellent scouting staff will find a diamond at #22 (I thought that Jamal Sampson could have been that.... well, he was not) and I was a bit disappointed that Jacobsen became our pick.

Of course as everybody on this board I hoped that Woods (he was a #3 pick in March-April and before the draft he still seemed to be a sure lottery pick) or Rush will fall to #22 although I haven't seen either one.

I agree that Rush is a pretty talented player he reminds me of Ray Allen.

Fred Jones was a decent pick.

He is at worst a good bench player and improving. Plus a slam dunk champion isn't the worst publicity for your team.

If all you want is publicity, draft someone like Brittney Spears.

I remember Joe saying he wanted Prince.

In the draft I wanted the suns to take Wilcox or Jeffries...I did not want Amare because of the problems with Kwane Brown.
I think that Wilcox will be a good player, but probably not as good as Amare.

On the 2nd pick I wanted Prince.....yes I did...!, but, I really thought they would take Jacobson because I guessed they had given him a promise.

Casey came from a team were he was the major scorer he had a nice touch and the Suns needed a pure shooter. He fit the need, but I didn't like it becouse we still had Penney & JJ.
