Is my count off. 27 O players and only 23 D players. If a move is made from now until game 1 it will most likely be with an O player cut and a D player coming in, it almost has to be doesnt it? 27 to 23 seems like weird ratio.

Am not crazy about Long -- I just dont see him contributing as a WR --

but at the same time, I am not really sure who else I would have kept

I beleive that cutting Francisco and Pope frees up some cap room for this season ( not that they really plan on using it)

happy for Walker

he played his butt off and took full advantage to prove himself when the rest of the team seemed to be going through the motions...as far as Long making the team, much rather have the physical play of Jones and I cannot see the reason to hold on to St.Pierre when Palko offered more in potential with age and his play in comparison. I would not be surprised if some team picks Palko up before we can sign him to the practice squad

Francisco getting cut for me is divine retribution for his horrible performance in the Superbowl. It was inevitable as our ST is fine without him and Ware clearly beat him out for the strong safety position. The nickel package just got a lot more reliable.

We all knew Pope was on the proverbial guillotine. Whis wants TEs that can block and be a safety valve for Warner in the passing game. He has never blocked a single person in his career and never lived up to the dangerous pass catching receiver touted out of Georgia.

Good ridance to both....

Two players I'm glad we kept were Byrd and Walker. I've been pimping Walker since the 2nd game and my prediction came out roses. Because of his play, I feel a little more comfortable about our ILB depth.

Byrd is a player who is going to go out there with a chip on his shoulder. I like how he can double up as an H-Back and TE. He sustains the block pretty well and seems to be wide open all of the time.

Urban mentioned a week ago i think that he doesn't think we would sign Palko to the PS because Whiz mentioned its tough enoguh getting snaps for 3 qbs. I think they like St Pierre more for the scout team than they do Palko (maybe he play's our starting team better than Palko does and helps our starters perform better).

I was expecting that Pope was most likely gone. I'm surprised that Hobson was cut and that Long was kept. I probably would have done the opposite.

So this is the problem with DRC, he faces St. Pierre all week at practice and then is unable to understand how much better a real QB is and is unable to adapt after these pseudo NFL practices

Palko being picked up, I wouldn't think so. It was said that Francisco might have been kept over Ware, because of salary. If that were so, why was Bery kept and Hobson cut, and BSP kept over Palko? But like every year, there are always surprises. I think Jones, Francisco and Hobson will be picked up.

Congrats to Long, Walker, Byrd and Adams.... and everyone. Go Cardinals 2009!:newcards:
I would hold off congratulations for a couple more days. My guess is that either Long or Byrd is cut for a defensive player picked up off the waiver wire.

I really like Byrd, he showed some of the most dynamic play of a TE in Cardinal red in a long time, hope it carries over to the real season. I think he is hungry with his second chance in the NFL, and he is hell bent on not failing again

I may be in the minority.. but Tim Castille seemed to be solid... I don't hardly knowanything about Kreider... Can someone explain why he was the best choice as the only FB on our roster?

Just curious...

Kreider has been in the league for 10 years and is a battering ram.

Possibly, or another defensive player CB or LB to pick up that player. Or he could just be signed to the PS also, possibly to use at a later time? I don't think Byrd would be let go at least until Patrick returns.

Totally agree!

I am also psyched that Highsmith and Walker made it.

Would have preferred Onrea over Long but oh well.

Raise your glass to Pope and Fransisco being gone!

It seems guaranteed contracts to depth players were quite a topic of discussion in the coaches' room. Don't be surprised if after a week the Cardinals re-sign C Melvin Fowler, possibly T Oliver Ross (although doubtful), LB Victor Hobson (if he isn't picked up or if he isn't ticked off), and possibly S Aaron Francisco (who would have to sign at the veteran minimum if he isn't signed elsewhere).

The Cardinals kept as many of their young talents as they could...at least thus far. That's exciting.

Leonard Pope will be claimed. Wonder if they called around to try to get a small value trade for him? It wouldn't have helped that cause to play Pope with the 3rd stringers this past week.

Boy oh boy did Ralph Brown and Bertrand Berry get mulligans. They did absolutely nothing to earn their spots this pre-season. Heck, Berry didn't even show up for OTA's.

Poor statement by the Cardinals for keeping those two (this is why this team takes games off, when two guys who take the whole pre-season off still make the team)...and neither one of them contributes much at all on STs. That is...if they aren't cut tomorrow following a couple of waiver moves or trades. Anything can still happen.

Lastly, I think that very few players on this roster could hold Aaron Francisco's jock as a ST player. And had the Cardinals' FO have had the wisdom to sign a real cover FS last year, Francisco wouldn't be the consistent subject of scorn on this board. He clearly was not suited for that role. And it was a testament to his character when he slipped on the play where Santonio Holmes was left alone by the CB and missing LB up the seam and still got back up to make a TD saving tackle at the five yard line.
