I am looking to buy a laptop for about $500.00-$600.00. A friend told me HP has come out with a really good one where I can get it for about $550.00. Can anyone tell me the laptops I should be looking at? Also, I don't want a netbook.

What do you want to use it for? Business applications, gaming, multimedia? Or just internet browsing/email or toting it around and connecting to various wireless?

That might help a bit.

well there are plenty of options within your budget of 500-600, not only HP but Dell & lenovo too has some good models to look into. check pccounter.net for deals on laptop computers, i am sure you can find one for yourself within your budget

HP has the highest failure rate of any laptop manufacturer. I would not recommend HP. Here is the latest failure rate data:

Here are the 3 worst:
HP - 25.6%
Gateway - 23.5%
Acer - 23.3%

Here are the 3 best:
Asus - 15.6%
Toshiba - 15.7%
Sony - 16.8%

In the middle of the pack:
Apple - 17.4%
Dell - 18.3%
Lenovo - 21.5% (this # was high do to the problems with the T60 or this would be lower)

One of the IT guys at work said for me to get a Lenovo. I was at their site and I am willing to pay $600.00 now. Does anyone know a good Lenovo or Dell for that price?
