Mathieu is under a lot of pressure, and he is trying to justify his salary to play for the money he COULD earn next season.

This is not the 1st time Mathieu has gotten into "Twitter fights", he had a few with old friends in New Orleans a few years ago, IIRC.

As the the "blown" assignment against Marquise Goodwin? I thought it was Patrick Peterson all along. Peterson likes to let the receiver get a little distance and then with the ball in the air, Peterson catches up to the receiver to make a play. He has done this a lot in his career.

One problem. Marquise Goodwin is one of the few players faster than Patrick Peterson, thus Peterson could not catch up to him.

Marquise Goodwin is the same player that ran down Peterson when Peterson tried to return his fumble recovery.

Mathieu has to get thicker skin and worry more about making more plays (like the strip for a fumble), and less about what social media thinks.

Cause right now ? The only way he stays on the team next year is a pay cut.

I kinda get it tho. kinda. This dude is a writer for the Cards, TM prob doesn't appreciate him putting a false narrative out there. Prob wouldn't have replied to some random fan who said the same thing.

Pretty unprofessional to get involved with a reporter in your own building. Mathieu needs to keep out of his mentions.

I think if the cardinals cut him this off-season, the remaining bonus balance would hit next year's salary cap. I think that is over $20 million. I'm guessing the team will have him on the roster for the next two years at minimum.

A little more detail. Looks like June 1 will be the target date as to whether to keep him or not.
Tyrann Mathieu signed a five year, $62.5 million extension with the Cardinals on August 2, 2016. All the salary cap data here is being calcuated based on a report from PFT which gives the breakdown of the contract. $21.25 million of the contract is fully guaranteed upon signing. The guarantee includes a $15.5 million signing bonus and Mathieu's 2016 and 2017 base salaries. If Mathieu is on the roster on the first day of the 2018 league year he will earn a $5 million roster bonus and guarantee his entire 2018 salary and $8 million of his 2019 salary. If Mathieu is named the defensive player of the year he will earn a $250,000 incentive each time that occurs.

thats March 1st aint it?? First day of the league year??
thats a lot of guarantees to agree to at that point. they need to be trying to restructure him now...or be prepared to cut him right after the super bowl

From week 5 on I think the HB has been starting to play pretty good. He’s starting to jump routes and trying to be the playmaker he is again. Let’s hold off on cutting him unless he restructures until he’s not guaranteed any money in a couple of years. I’d rather pay him and pay him instead of not having him. He’s not a cancer in the locker room and he’s not losing games for us. Time will tell, but he will start making plays for this d again and this thought will be a thing of the past.

Odegard was definitely out of line as a team-paid reporter. He can get the damn information on who blew coverage from any of the coaches.

How do you get BA has lost the team from that?

When the players start pointing the finger at each other and throwing other players under the bus in the press, that's a lack of leadership on the part of the coach inspite of the "next man up" ********.

Who exactly did he point a finger at?

Oh for Pete sake. Does he have to say a name?

When he feels the need to say "hey you are wrong I wasn't the one that messed up those plays" isn't that "pointing the finger"?

When someone says look around at the guys making mistakes on this team and I'm not one of them and the coach says nothing that just about says it all.

All he did was correct Odegard saying the guy wasn't his man. So basically telling him to get his facts straight instead of calling out on twitter.

I think the play on the field more than anything TM said points to not everyone being "on the same page". Or, if they were, it was a sucky page to be on!
