Bring on the Packers!

In almost EVERY playoff scerenio, We end up playing the packers in the first round at UofP Stadium....

Even if Philly loses to the Cowboys and he cowboys take the NFC East, we would have the tie breaker and finish #3, but Phlly has the Tiw Breaker over GB and thus we would still face GB in the 3/6 match-up...

So we have three weeks and a game to play against them before the real dance... time to scout now, time to figure there weakness... It really sucks that we drew them in the first round, but they do have their flaws..

Feel free to do an unofficial scouting report and thoughts... the countdown start NOW..

Bring on the Pack!!

If Green Bay loses to Seattle and to us, they might not even make the playoffs. Too early.

I think the packers are as good as anyone for our style of play. Favre is a gunslinger and subject to interceptions. We have better than average DB's. Turnovers are likely to decide the game. What will be interesting is just what do we show them of our offense in our final game? Do we take Kurt out after a half? Strange we would end up playing a team almost two games in a row. It is now time to get on a roll like last year. Larry and Kurt have those nagging injuries and Larry probably should be given some time off. Winning 12 games would be great but not as great as advancing in the playoffs. Some tough decisions for coach Whiz.

Here's the key game to keep an eye on: NY Giants at Minnesota in week 17.

Providing that the Cards beat Green Bay, this game will likely determine the fate of three teams: Packers, Cowboys, Giants.

If the Giants beat the Vikings, all bets are off and we will not play the Packers. Green Bay and Dallas' playoff hopes would hinge on the Cowboys/Eagles game that week. Only one would get in. Cards would play the Giants.

The way the Giants and Vikings have both been playing lately, this is very plausible.

Huh? Farve plays for the Viking now and we have 9 wins with 2 left to go.....so the most wins we could get would be 11....

Right you are I got my QB's mixed up but both the Vikings and Green Bay have the gunslinger mentality. Green Bay would be a better fit for us I think but of course it depends on which Cardinal team shows up. The one that fumbles or the one that drives down the field.

If it's the one that fumbles, then it really doesn't matter who we play. We wouldn't match up well with any of them...

if we beat GB and NYG win against Carolina & Vikings. GB is out and we are #3. we play against NYG #6.
The key is Dallas win againt Was & Philly so they get #4 and Philly #5

If the Giants win out, they will be 10-6, and have the tiebreaker over the cowboys

If the packers beat the Seahawks and lose to us, they will be 10-6

If the Cowboys beat the Redskins and Eagles lose to the Broncos they will both be 10-5 heading into a NFC East championship game week 17... If the Cowboys win they will be 11-5 (4-2), and a cardinals win over the packers would give them the #3 seed with the tie breaker(#3-best record against common opponents)

The Eagles would be the #5 seed securing the top wildcard seed over the Packers with better record inside the NFC.. and we would play the Packers as the #6 seed...

If the Eagles win, they would secure the #3 seed (regardless of if they win or lose to the Broncos)... The packers own the head-to-head with cowboys and would have #5 seed..

IF Giants win against the Panthers and @Vikings, and the cowboys go 1-1, then the cowboys will not make the playoffs because they lose both tie breakers to the Packers and Giants..

The Giants and packers would then go to the #5 tie breaker for seeding and (they didn't play, both have 4-2 division records, and both have 8-4 conference records, and they don't have 4 common opponents), which would be strength of victory which the Packers would win... giving them the #5 seed and playing us as the #4 seed

As you can see just about every possible case we are playing the packers... the only wrench that can be thrown into everything is if the Packers lose this week against the Seahawks... which IMO will not happend in any world....

whew.. that took a lot of work, my head is spinning I hope this clears things up for folks...

If that happends both would be 10-6, the Giants would still lose the tiebreaker to the Packers on strenth of victory in their schedule.. see above... so we would be the #3 seed and play the Packers as the #6 seed...

If all that happends, maybe the Giants beating the Vikings will give them a slight edge over GB... but other than that I don't know that they would own the TB..

But in the end that is A LOT that has to happend correctly in order for the Cardinals not to play GB...If just one of those things don't happend (IE giants lose 1 game, Cards lose to Pack, Eagles beat cowboys) then it solidifies GB..

Right now, it is early but everything I see ALOMOST all signs point to GB.. time to get prepared...

I'd like to see the Vikings lose out,
I'd like to see the Cardinals win out to get the #2 seed,
I'd like to see Dallas lose 1 game so the Packers can still get in the playoffs with a loss to the Cardinals,
Then I'd like to see Green Bay have another shot at the Vikings.
Doubt that'll happen or if it's doable, but that's on my Christmas list.

#2 Min 12-4
#3 Ari 11-5
#4 Dal 11-5
#5 Phi 11-5
#6 NYG 10-6
out GB 10-6

Take your very plausible scenario, and add in just ONE somewhat unlikely, but not entirely unthinkable upset (the Bears beating the Vikings in Chicago this week), and you have THIS dream scenario:

#1 Saints
#2 Cardinals
#3 Cowboys
#4 Vikings
#5 Giants
#6 Eagles [edit: please see TheHopToad's correction below!]

If the Eagles then upset the Vikings and the Cowboys beat the Giants in the wild card games, in the 2nd round the Cardinals would then face the Eagles in Arizona (a game the Cardinals won last year), and the Cowboys would face the Saints in New Orleans (where the Cowboys won last week), potentially setting up Dallas at Arizona in the NFC Championship game.

Hey, we can dream!

(My scenario also includes, just for fun, a 7-way tie at 9-7 in the AFC.)

Not exactly. The Eagles would have the #5 seed and the Giants would have #6.

If the Eagles beat Minnesota as the #5 seed, they would play at New Orleans unless the Giants also beat Dallas.

In your scenario, the Cards would play Dallas in the 2nd round. It wouldn't be possible to face them in the NFC Championship game.

D'oh! Quite right of course... i was playing with a bunch of scenarios far too late at night, and got them mixed up when i posted that.

I the scenario i posted, barring upsets in the wild card round, the Cardinals would meet the Cowboys at home in the 2nd round, while we'd hope for the Vikings to knock off the Saints in New Orleans. Then the Cardinals would get another home game against the Vikings in the NFC Championship.
