Looks like we'll be favored in 5 of our next 6 games!

I like your optimism, but if both the Hawks and the Niners keep winning they will be fighting for the #1 or #2 seed and will probably prefer that to resting starters.

I can't see Sea of SF sitting starters in weeks 16 and 17. They may be battling for 1st in the west in those games

My real guess is that the Niners will have locked up the #1 WC seed by the last week of the season when we play them, so they won't have a chance to change their playoff position. Maybe they could sit some guys at that point.

The Hawks and the Saints will probably be a race to the finish for home field advantage in the NFC, so no sitting starters for them.

Translation: A bunch of "experts" I don't even know think the Cards should be favored to win a bunch of future games.

The team made a huge step in the right direction yesterday, but have not yet proved that they can sustain that high level of play. (If they can prove it, they've got a shot).

I think the Lions are in 6th place right now so that's one team we have the tie breaker on.

Rome wasn't built in a day, we're headed in the right direction.

and BTW, high draft picks don't mean star players and "franchise" Left Tackles don't make a winning team. If high picks and star Left Tackles made winning teams the Browns would be incredible.

Far from kidding. On the road east coast am game and we dnt get any respect as it is. As it stands now only one game better in the standings You know Foles will be out 5 weeks from now? Interesting.

If you want to think we will be favored more power to you.

I think it could go either way depending on what happens between now and then. If we go 2-1 (playing Indy close at home) and the Eagles go 0-3, I think there is a very good chance that the Cards will be slight favorites. If the Cards beat the Colts, I think the chances of being a favorite go up quite a bit.

.

We have some talent, but the right direction is a consistent winner & that's only going to be achieved with the drafting of a stud QB & those guys generally come from the top of the draft!

here's a list of 23 NFL Qb's and their draft position, I'm not so sure about that whole great QB's come from the top of the first round theory.

PS - I had to leave #1 picks Jamarcus Russell & David Carr off this list because they're no longer in the league, same goes for #3 picks Vince Young & Joey Harrington

and to that point, a QB who could likely be had in rd2 that I LOVE as an NFL QB - Sean Mannion.

There are a ton of premium LTs in this year's draft. Regardless of where the Cardinals fall in the first round there is no excuse for not being able to draft a franchise Left Tackle because he isn't available.

True. We should be able to find A.Richardson or J.Hurst somewhere in Mid RD 1 or even early Rd2.

What you have to list to make this a full argument is ALL Qbs drafted in all rounds. Once you have the complete list, the argument clearly favors 1st round Qbs.

That's very flawed logic, you don't need to take a look at all QB's in all rd's the most effective way to judge would be to look at where SUCCESSFUL QB's were drafted.

You said in your post that they come from the "top" of the draft, that's very different than rd1 in my mind. I cal the "top" picks 1 - 5.

This was a subject that came up on a thread about 3 years ago that enticed me to do some research. I forget the exact results but SB winning QB's were by far and away 1st rd picks and many of those were top ten picks.

The number of QB's with SB appearances was also incredibly high. The results surprised me because the names Montana & Brady leaped immediately to mind since they have about 7 SB wins themselves. Kinda the exception that proves the rule that you need to draft a QB early in rd1 to have a legit shot at the prize.

Agree. East coast games always give us trouble. No way we will be favored.

Since the last super bowl brady won, every single sb winning qb has been a round 1 qb

Brees???
He was the 32nd player drafted that year but it was the first pick in rd2. A team had to forfeit their 1st rd pick, IIRC it was the Raiders.

Not quite. There were 31 teams in the NFL in 2001. The Texans joined the league in 2002.

The Steelers did forfeit a 3rd round pick, and the 49ers a 5th round pick for salary cap violations. The Raiders haven't forfeited any pick since 1981.
