Opening was great, not as shocking as last year's, but still right up there.

I love how they fool you. Last year ends with a scene from "off the island"...so this year begins, with a seemingly "off the island" house...and you fall for it again.

Yeah, the episode seemed slightly slow, but I loved it anyways. Lots of little things happened:

Henry's real name is Ben.

Why was Juliette crying at the beginning? I think she and "Ben"/Henry were together before, and had just broken up. Hence the "I guess I'm not part of the book club anymore".

What did she mean by "I thought free will still existed"...right before the explosion. I think that village must be run by Henry who expects people to obey.

I no longer think that the plane was "brought" there by someone on the island, at least...NOT by the Others. Desmond missing the button caused it to crash, and no one made him miss it besides himself leaving the hatch. So the Others just knew what to do at that time. They have had people "come" to the island before, so they were ready to act.

Also, the get information on people. When Ben said to get the names within 3 days, we think it's so they could have time to look up backgrounds on everyone, and decide on who they would take and do tests on...

The whole thing with Jack was to build a bond between Juliette and him...and Ben said good job at the end for it.

Interesting stuff, I LOVE this show.

I'm not sure I would say it was a yawner, but it definitely didn't excite me like last season's premier. I was expecting more.

Chap, I actually like the new lady.

Joe

Other than the fact that she seems to be everywhere... ;)

I don't like how manipulative the writing was tonight--mainly in Jack's flashback with the misdirection about who his wife was having the affair with. While that sort of writing is the MO of the show, I think it was way too over-the-top, leading to those few "ho-hum" responses to the show. It's one thing to provide some mystery, but it's another to do it and make the audience feel that they're too stupid to figure anything out on their own.

Hopefully next week's episode will see all the other characters and finally figure out what the heck happened to Eko, Locke and Desmond! They're way more interesting than the Others. The biggest revelation, IMO? Finding out NotHenry's real name and seeing the Others' little community.

The Tivo board is now calling him "Benry" lol.

Also, I believe they have "internet" access...to be able to look up all this stuff on people.

How dumb was the "Is she happy?" question? It's one thing to know what medical school Jack went to, but to know if his ex-wife is "happy"? Gimme a break.

I don't think it was dumb at all.

The entire episode, all he wanted to know was who she was with.

He'd obviously grown and gotten over it, and now just cared if she was happy.

I'm not faulting him for wanting her to be happy. I'm faulting him for thinking this woman knew if she was, and faulting her for actually saying she is. But it's just a nitpick.

Did anybody think she was Desmond's girl when the episode first started? Only when she spoke without a British accent did I realize she was someone different.

Right there with you. I mean I guess they could just look at her situation and assume she's happy, but it's a reach.

I also thought it was Penny when the show started.

I just expected more after last year's season premiere. I thought that was absolutely awesome and worth the wait after the long summer. This one on the other hand was ho-hum. I'll have no trouble waiting for next week's episode. In fact I'm probably more excited to watch Monday's Heroes.

I loved this episode...the opening scene was awe-some.

You should probably change the title of this thread to say it contains a ton of spoilers...otherwise the spoiler tag would break in here.

The other thing is...they fooled Jack into thinking they know everything...because of that folder.

So when he asked the question, she just said yes, she's happy...but they could have ZERO idea...

He's in an emotional state...and would accept any answer...which is part of their plan I think.

Absolutely I did. I kept wondering where I'd seen her before. Then I realized that it was on this board, lol!

I totally agree with you, Mike. Besides, we don't know what kind of drugs they gave him, do we?

I loved the interaction between Kate and Sawyer.

I want to know who that other guy in the cage was. Was he one of "them?" If not, where did he come from?

The previews for next week look good. Thought it was interesting that Ben didn't know about the sailboat.

Very good point. They did know a lot - which I suppose could have been obtained via an internet connection, etc. Or, possibly via the drugs. Still unsure how connected the Others are to the mainland.

Big question - is Chachi some one else captured, or a plant for Sawyer's mind-screwing??

Other thoughts on the opener:

Are Juliette and Benry at odds? Note that in the Book Club, a man mentioned "Ben would not like this", and when the noise from the plane brought them all out, and Benry and Juliette met, Benry said "Looks like I am not in the Book Club anymore"......Did they used to be a couple??

Also - it looks like the plane's crash was not directly caused by the others (Desmond and the button), but that they have seen similar occurances, and knew exactly what to do.

Well - we now know where the Bears came from, and that they were smarter than Sawyer :D

And, the underwater pod is finally shown!! Just how far underwater is the question. So are all the animal experiments over, and they released the experiments into the wild (remember from Season 1/2 the shark with the symbol on it).

And yes, JG - interesting that Benry did not know about the working sailboat.

Agree with others it started off with a bang but didn't quite follow through but it never does, that's part of the MO of the show get to you expect one thing and then deliver something else. I like the new female character not sure yet if she will hook up with Jack or if that's all an act as part of whatever "experiment" they're doing. Obviously there's a reason they have Jack alone but now have Sawyer and Kate where they can talk, presumably they think Jack is the leader and taking him away will have more impact?

I think the other guy escaping and freeing Sawyer was most likely a setup, they know Sawyer is the most likely to try and run so they let him out right away so he can see how quickly they'll respond and catch him, to break his spirit? There seems to be a lot of good cop bad cop going on and not always the same for example Sawyer hates Zeke but they're clearly trying to get Kate to trust Zeke.

I can tell I like a show when I'm complaining about how quickly the commercial breaks come because that means the time between commercials is just flying by because I'm into the show, that was the case last night.

I think a good idea might be for someone to post something like:

"LOST SEASON 3, EPISODE 2" prior to the airing of the episode. Then someone who is watching on DVD can read all the posts up to that point and not get spoilers. This might work in our other tv threads too.

A new thread? or new post?

If the purpose is to prevent people from reading spoilers, wouldn't seperate threads per episode make more sense, even though it would probably clutter up the board?

Yeah, but i don't want to do that I don't think...but it makes sense.

We'll just make a post before the next show in BOLD, saying the next episode stuff is coming up.

Of course, it should be common sense the minutes or hours or days after the air date of an episode that there will be spoilers. If someone gets mad that they come on the thread the day after the episode airs and there are spoilers, then that's their own fault for a) missing the episode in the first place, and b) reading the thread. :D

ha ha. True. I was thinking more about year-later lollygaggers like Bada.
