how the hell do the Cavs keep getting the number 1 pick?!

if anyone ever wanted to maintain the NBA was rigged, that franchise getting a shot at this many number ones flies straight in the face of that.

Maybe they keep giving the Cavs the #1 pick to "prove" that it's not rigged!

So how high could we get with 14/18/27, #9 to charlotte, who needs more players/depth?

To what end? I can't think of anyone who would likely be available at the nine spot that would be better than the three picks we have. I'd send 14 and 27 to move up a few spots if there was a specific target but I want to come out of this draft with two quality players and I like our chances with 14 and 18.

The NBA needs to put rules into place that greatly reduce the lottery winning chance for following years when you win it.

I see no reason for this. The draft is structured as it is in an effort to promote parity. Not making the best players available to the worst teams defeats that intent. I think they just need to go back to a strict worst to first draft and forget the lottery.

Everyone should get the same consolation prize for not making the playoffs.

If that was it's purpose, sure. But it's not. It isn't trying to be fair, it's trying to create a competitive balance across the league. Certain franchises have built in advantages that give them such a huge leg up on the lesser organizations and the draft is one of the few tools available to the league to try and offset some of those advantages. They can't make up for great weather, large population bases, media centers, no and low taxes, exchange rates and so much more but they believe they have to make an effort.

This is how the lottery should work.

Initially every team in the NBA gets a lottery factor of 1.

The lottery process is a simple raffle and every team has tickets equal to their lottery factor.

After the first lottery draw the

#1 gets -7
#2 gets -6
#3 gets -5
#4 gets -4
#5 gets -3
#6 gets -2
#7 gets -1
#8 gets +1
#9 gets +2
#10 gets +3
#11 gets +4
#12 gets +5
#13 gets +6
#14 gets +7

Teams with negative lottery factor are automatically slotted at the end of the lottery.

This way teams stuck in no-mans land will eventually get a very high pick without being forces to intentionally suck to compete for a high pick.
The incentive of being intentionally bad is diminished greatly and teams stuck at the end of the lottery for many years will be rewarded eventually.

They should probably also revise trading of future picks

Just do it the same way they are now, but add one extra ball for every year since the team last had a number one pick. A team like the Suns would have 45 more chances. Boston would have had a jillion. I don't think they have ever had a #1 pick.

They had the first pick in 1950. That wasn't too long ago.

And the only time they had the 2nd pick, he died before playing a game.

Blegh! Bosh is a three point shooting, poor rebounding PF. we've already got one of those sadly at 1/3 the cost. we don't need another at 20 million bucks per.
You seriously don't think that there's a huge difference between Chris Bosh and Channing Frye?

And Spoelstra the idiot came up with the offensive scheme to make Bosh shoot 3s. Look at what he's done in his career, he isn't a 3pt chucker usually.

And when Wade and LeBron and Birdman are all on the court at the same time, there isn't much room for Bosh in the paint. Teams don't respect LeBron and especially Wade's 3pt shooting that much.

Bosh is one of the more versatile defensive big men in the league. He is also very versatile offensively and has been taking a back seat to LeBron and dwade for a while now. I think he could be as good a pickup as Love would be.

Same here. I actually personally prefer Bosh over Love because I think Bosh is way more clutch and a better leader. His defense (which is average/above average) is also way better.

Not only that Bosh won't complain about his touches and won't mind if Dragic and Bledsoe are hogging the ball.

How is Bosh a better leader? I see no evidence of that.

And there is no way I really want Bosh, he has been a role player for the last 3 years. Who can say that he will ever reach allstar level again even.

Bosh? Gag me.

I agree with slin on this one. There is nothing to indicate he is any sort of leader, the last time he was "the man" on a team, the team sucked. He is on the wrong side of 30, he is noticeably slower than he was in his Toronto days. At this stage of his career he has turned into a glorified Horace Grant.

I dont view him as being in the same spectrum as Love, and I would not remotely consider giving him a max contract.
