Hearing Lyle Sendlein could be on the practice field as early as this afternoon. Nothing official, Sendlein turned down 1.5 M in March.

Kent Somers ‏@kentsomers
confirm @mikejurecki report, #azcardinals plan to re-sign C Lyle Sendlein today. Pending physical, contract details

He played well for us over the years. Last year he played hurt. I'm glad he is back and hope he wins the starting spot.

Curious to see the price compared to what his comp would have been had he not been released. That should show how desperate the Cards were without Lyle.

A healthy Sendlien is a little better than Larson and Shipley, but there are two other options that could work out for us. Anthony Steen and Jon Cooper. Steen looked pretty good in the practice I saw. I fully believe Cooper's best position is at center. My hope is that he gets tried at center this preseason and wins the job.

Really? The Cooper blooper took forever to learn the plays and then got hurt. I see no logic in that guy playing center, in that guy calling the protection schemes... I like Palmer you see :D

I've always been amazed how much the center has to do on a team including having to call defensive blocking assignments. Considering, I've always wondered why they are not paid more.

Sendlein was getting a lot of reps today. He had some problems blocking Cory Peters in 11 on 11 drills though.

Me too. I can understand the premium price for LTs. But, to me, it seems like C should be the second highest paid position on the line. Only the QB has a more complicated mental task playing the game. Instead, lots of teams seem to treat C as almost an afterthought compared to the other 4 spots.

Say what you will about Sendlein, but he is smart and rarely blows a call.

Keim FAILED to see a problem we all KNEW. I don't get why he didn't bring in any center during FA...not one. Thinking Ship or Larson who never made the field last year by earning it was somehow going to miracle going to become a starter was dumb thinking. SK is awesome in many areas, but this one was baffonery.

BA and Goodwin wanted Shipley so SK signed him. It would seem to me that the baffoons are the coaches and not SK.

To be fair, they DID try to re-sign Sendlein. Sendlein did not like the offer. So, by him signing today they have the situation at center they were planning for in the first place.

Many, many of us for years have circled C as a spot to be upgraded. But, as I said a couple of posts back, the Cards have treated C as an afterthought for a long time like a lot of teams do. The last time the Cards really tried to get a top line center was when they signed Mike Gruttadaria in free agency.

The Oline in general has needed to be upgraded for like forever. C was the lowest priority on the Oline because Sendlein is decent to good. Now the rest of the Oline appears to be in good to great shape so the C position needs the upgrade.

Don't forget that pass rusher, CB, QB, RB, ILBer, S and TE also needed attention so Sendlein and the C position were way down on the priority list to be upgraded.

Heard Lyle's building his house over on Lake Austin. Right next to a lot Levi Brown owns. No joke.

We will see more of that during the season. He is and has been a weak link on the Oline.

Better than what we have? We have below average players at C right now so he doesn't have to be much better to be better.

Cards should have tried to upgrade C this offseason.
