I like what the Bucks have done this offseason. With Blake coming in to replace TJ Ford, they've essentially traded Magliore for Villanueva, which is a big win if you ask me.

The throw in Skinner makes 5 mil a year!!!!

Brian Skinner - $5,400,000 - $5,850,000

I was thinking we could use part of the TE to the Bucks and pick up Skinner but YIKES 5mil!! This guy is a good backup but he is 30 years old and can not do anything compared to TT.

And we did not want to pay TT more than 12 mil for 3 years! Go figure!
TT for 4 years at 21 mil is cheap!

So you are calling Ford and Blake even??

I would have to disagree there

So who do you think is better, Ford or Blake?

When healthy Ford is the way better player imo

Blake is pretty good, but hes no more than a backup on a good team.

When you throw in Ford's injury history, I'd say it's relatively close.

I was thinking the same thing. BTW, Skinner had some success with the Bucks a few years ago.

I could find any number of overpaid players and then say that Tim Thomas would be cheap at 4 years, $21 million compared to them. Of course that just means that those players are overpaid. It doesn't necessarily mean that he is a bargain at that price.

We will probably spend the next year and a half on the "should the Suns have taken the $21 million offer from TT" debate. It's always a tough call because you can't pay for everybody who'd be nice to have.

On a related subject, last season the Cavs signed Donyell Marshall to a four year MLE deal. I really wanted Marshall, but not at that price. Now it appears the Cavs are having second thoughts about that deal. See the Gooden Thread

Duh, okay.

Now that you have contributed a major posting to this thread, tell me what you think TT was worth?

I actually think 4 years, $21 million is about the right price for Tim Thomas. That said, I'm glad things work out the way they did. I would rather have Marcus Banks. I'm also not behind the scenes with the Phoenix Suns, so I don't know why exactly they valued him so much less than most of us here did.

I just don't think that deal is a bargain like you do. I think it's about right. I would be happier with 3 years at $16 million.

Looks like this is the best the Bucks could do for Magliore. They must have insisted on only taking back expiring contracts.

The good news for them (aside from getting rid of Magliore's attitude) is that they filled their needs for next season. Blake is a quality fourth guard who might even pass Charlie Bell in the rotation, and Brian Skinner is a solid backup center who's familiar with the team and is comfortable with the role he's projecting to.

Portland acquired the bigger trade chip, although I don't think Magliore's value is as high as some people think--he's still the benchmark for mediocrity at the center position, but traditional centers in general don't seem to be as highly valued in the post-Suns era.

If they don't move Magliore before the deadline, I doubt the Blazers will re-sign him; they owe a debt to Przybilla, who's younger, cheaper and similarly useful. Maybe they're expecting to use Magliore in a S&T next summer.

I guess I shouldn't assume the Blazers front office will behave sensibly.

I like Skinner. He works really hard on the boards and on defense. He gets most everything on sheer effort. But, oof, he's a handicap if he has to handle or shoot from 10 feet or more out.

Agreed, that if the choice was Thomas or Banks, I'll take Banks, it makes Nash more effective. But I doubt you'll find a 4 yr 21 mil player out there who has/had the impact of TT, especially a 6' 10" player. I'd be curious if there was any player out there with similar numbers, not on a rookie contract at that price. I expect suns management are keeping cap flexibility for next years 3 draft picks and/or trades using those picks.

It also says that after all this FA activity only Cassel and TT were willing to work for less for their -at the time- teams, and considering Cassels other option, the Hawks, his choice was certainly less of a sacrifice.
