City swoop for Sylvinho
Veteran Brazilian makes Eastlands move

Manchester City have bolstered their defensive options for this season after landing Brazilian left-back Sylvinho on a one-year contract.

The 35-year-old former Arsenal man, who was out of contract after being released by Barcelona, will act as cover for first-choice full-back Wayne Bridge.

Sylvinho brings Premier League experience to Eastlands having played two seasons with Arsene Wenger's side between 1999 and 2001.

After leaving Arsenal he has spent the past eight years in La Liga playing for Celta Vigo and Barcelona.

This is a great signing, IMO. Sylvinho was one of my favorite players when he was at Barca, a pro's pro. I think he's still got a lot left in the tank. He played very well in the CL final against Man U.

I like Sylvinho too, he was very dependable whenever Abidal went down for some reason. But he is pretty long in the tooth, and he's definitely not an every-game player anymore.

If by dopey you mean undefeated and not given up a goal then yes.

Against Blackburn and Wolves? Come on now. They've scored 3 and given up none. Those two teams are AT BEST middle of the table teams.

By contrast, in two Premiere League games, Arsenal has given up 2 goals and scored 10. And 6 of those were against Everton, a superior side to Blackburn and Wolves. And argument can be made that even the 2nd team Arsenal beat, Portsmouth, is superior to both Blackburn and Wolves. Wait until they beat some of the stronger teams in the Prem before declaring them a juggernaut.

LOL sorry about that. Just pumping myself up since Arsenal has both ManU and ManCity coming up in the next couple weeks.

Arsenal player might be suspended for diving. And you wanna compare a team that does that to a class team like West Ham or Man City? :)

It was a dive, but certainly not something to be suspended for. Yellow card, definitely. He wasn't touched, but you could see that Eduardo thought he would be, and he did come close. He did what any striker does when a keeper is flying at you. The only person who should be suspended is that ref who missed the whole thing even though he was standing right there.

Definitely a dive, but enough to be banned? Sour grapes from Celtic fans.

Oh, and since we're talking about Man City, watch Adebayor dive a few times--he does it a lot. Many, many players in English football dive.

Oh this is fair

Chelsea's billionaire owner Roman Abramovich is backing a UEFA proposal that would scupper the efforts of big-spending Manchester City to dominate English and European football.

Abramovich, who has spent approximately £700m on transforming the Blues into one of football's big hitters over the last six years, has been named by UEFA president Michel Platini as one of the key agitators behind his proposal to limit football clubs' spending power.

City owner Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, who bought the Premier League club in September 2008, has spent £120m in this transfer window alone and it would appear that Abramovich would support an initiative to prevent City from following the very same route that he used to make the Blues a football powerhouse.

Arsenal @ City on September 12th !!!!!

Arsenal's going to wipe the pitch with ManCity. Not only are they going to be pissed about losing to ManU, but they were clearly the better team on Saturday--the scoreboard was 2-1, but ManU didn't beat Arsenal, Arsenal beat Arsenal. The referee was terrible in that game as well.

Manchester City better practice long and hard this week.

Come on now. You've been a fan of theirs for a month, and it's your house? LOL ;)

Anyway, we lost to ManU on 2 fluke goals, one a suspect PK and a bonehead own goal. If you think you're going to be us 3-1, I'd like some of what you're smoking. Hell, the team you beat this weekend 1-0 we beat 4-1 last weekend.

And the fact that you wrote "H-E double hockey sticks" means it's a moral imperative to put you in your place. :D

3-1 Arsenal

Chap you got sooooo lucky

Carlos Tevez will miss Manchester City's Premier League fixture with Arsenal on Saturday but Robinho may recover from his own injury sustained on international duty.

The South American World Cup qualifier between Brazil and Argentina, which finished 3-1 to Dunga's side, has come at some cost to Mark Hughes as Tevez has picked up a knee injury that rules him out of Arsenal's visit to Eastlands.

The Argentina forward could however return in time to face his former club Manchester United for the highly-anticipated derby at Old Trafford on September 20, according to manager and fellow former Red Devil Mark Hughes.

"We heard yesterday (Monday) that Carlos had a knee problem, our doctor has spoken to the Argentine medical people and the feeling is that he is out for the weekend so he will not play against Arsenal," Hughes told the club's official website.

The rich boys beat us, even with that scum Adebayor. It's a long season and right now ManC has bragging rights. And the worst part of it is the bandwagoner here is going to gloat. Maybe you should be a fan of the team for longer than 2 months before gloating about a victory early in the season.

Arsenal have been unlucky again this year, both against Manure and Man City.

Still, I think they will finish above both halves of Manchester come May.

Slinslin, you might find it hard to get excited about 'mercenary' teams because they pretty much dominate your German teams.
