If he comes back it is likely to be as sad as Ali fighting Larry Holmes. I know it's apples to oranges comparison, but that is what I think of. Or, in football terms, the end of Namath and Unitas' careers.

Totally agree.

One thing that's already driving me nuts is people saying the win yesterday validates Manning's place in the all time QB's because he now has 2 rings.

Peyton basically handed the ball off and punted for 4 quarters, he did absolutely nothing but not lose the game yesterday. Why does the Denver defense and run game carrying him to a SB win yesterday in any way validate him as an alltime great? he either is or he isn't, personally I say he is, but yesterdays game in no way should have any impact on that sort of all time ranking. He basically did what Dilfer did in his SB win.

Look at Warner. He won 1 Superbowl and handed his team the lead in the other 2, just to see the defense lose the game. If they had held the lead, he may have already been elected to the HOF with 3 rings.

He should drop the mike and walk away. He has just a shell of his former QB skills. At least Elway could still throw the ball, and came back for his encore. The only spiral Manning threw last night was right to the defender. He lucked out this year with that defense. Do not push it.

I think he'll retire with the usual press announcement at team hdq with his family by his side. I think he wanted to delay the announcement so it wouldn't take the spotlight away from a team moment.

Of course, he didn't know that Newton was going to have his little, "Look at me, I'm leaving!" moment and take the spotlight. Which, the more I think about it, should have been expected since Cam likes having people look at Cam.

All I know, is I considered him the biggest class act in the League until recently....
When the HGH scandal broke, I immediately gave him the benefit of the doubt....then that issue gets cloudy with his Private Investigator stuff, but being a Budweiser shill during the SB post-game?

That's gonna cost him some class points lol.
I know he has investments with Anheiser Busch, but that was embarrassing.
The league doesn't allow its players to endorse alcohol, but that was clearly a plug....
I doubt Manning drinks much, but when he does....I would bet anything it's not Bud.

I'm glad he got it, precisely because of the people who have been criticized him for winning only one. Saying things like, "You know who else has one ring? Trent Dilfer." Peyton would be an all-time great even if he hadn't won the title with Indy, in the Marino category.

Glad to see him get the second ring and be the only QB ever to win a bowl with two different teams. He is the best QB I personally have ever seen and he is done now, but that takes nothing away from a brilliant career! Say what you want but he managed the game against a tough team that smoked us and won a Super Bowl. No one could convince me that Brock could have handled the pressure of a super bowl game like manning did he stayed calm even after a poor interception and getting hammered all game long. He won I'm glad he did so he can go out on top where he belongs!

Can't believe he's dragging this decision thru the combine. What a dick.

Let's be real here, the Broncos will cut him regardless if he wants to play or not!

I don't get the hate for Peyton here, it's very hard to walk away from the game you love & have played for almost 30 years.

The cynic in me says he doesn't want to announce now because he's getting hammered on right now for other stuff and wants to let that calm down.

I'd equate it more with Willie Mays. Seeing Mays trudge with the Mets was a sad thing to see. Or OJ with the 49ers.

he is giving Elway time to make a deal with his replacement... Brock's price goes up 5 million a year when Manning retires.

I think it's this... though, if he's having discussions with the Rams I would not at all be surprised...

I kind of think it is win or lose. at his age with his injuries it was coming anyways but I think the latest with this PED thing is the kicker. You don't hire a private detective to look at something like that if you're not concerned they might have actually found something and that likely means there was something to find.

I think he probably did what many do, used PED's to rehab and get back quicker, but I suspect now he'll play the game win or lose and retire and hope the story just goes away because he's not playing.

Sort of crazy security, anywhere near team hotels they have people with guns it's like protecting the president or something.

But THEN, should/will he be considered for the HOF?

Let's bring Warner back!

He threw two back breaking pick 6's in both SB losses. It's not all on the D now.

The reality is, any sane person knew Manning played his last game when the Broncos beats Carolina.

Good luck blockhead you were pure greatness!

This makes me think back to witnessing him dismantle that defending NFC champ Cards team in Glendale on Sunday night. It was a clinic & also makes me think about all the very good QBs I've witnessed play live on an NFL field thru the years: Manning, Warner, Palmer, Staubach, Unitas, Brees, Hart, Lomax, Jurgenson, Romo, White, Eli, Meredith, Brodie & Cunningham.
