If the Cardinals want any chance of winning games they need to start Shipp and bench Smith. The signing of Emmitt looks more and more of a mistake. Shipp showed last year he had a lot of talent and potential. That is my opinion, does anyone else agree?

thats ridiculous. emmitt is one of the greatest runners of all time, and he still has gas left in the tank. Shipp may run a little harder than emmitt, but hes not as good as emmitt is right now.

I do agree that they need to use Shipp more. For instance, trying to pound it into the endzone today. However, Smith has been better back there because of his ability to pick up blitzes. Usually we are two touchdowns or more behind, taking our running game away. If we could just stay close, Shipp definitely could win games for us in the fourth quarter.

I think Shipp should be getting about 1/3 of the touches. Smith at this point has shown me that he can contribute.

I agree he has gas left in the tank, but that doesn't mean he is a better runner than Shipp right now. Emmitt picks up the blitz great, but Shipp needs to be used alot more than he is now. I think Macginnis has too much respect for Smith to actually bench him, but clearly we aren't running the ball the way we should be. I would like to see what Shipp can do.

Mac has been gently nudged into playing Smith almost all the time. Smith is the "selling" point right now...along with that Boldin guy...so I am sure it has been suggested Smith should play.

Shipp needs more carries and boy, that Anderson kid sure mustn't have earned any playing time with his work in the preseason. Way to send a message to the young players (Shipp, Anderson).

Something else is amiss. What is it?

I really don't see how starting Shipp would make that much of a difference.

Other than he earned it with his play last year, you are right. It likely wouldn't have made much difference...but you never know.

I don't know if it will make a difference or not either. But we are losing with Smith, so why not give Shipp a crack at it. Its not like Smith is getting 100yds a game with a TD. When things aren't going well you need to change things up and see if something else works.

I'd also be all for trying a 3 - 4 base defensive alignment, moving Clement to guard and try Wells at tackle.

All things considered Shipp ran very well last year. He is definately better than Smith at this point.

What does not playing Shipp and Anderson do for us?

It is all about the future as we certainly aren't going to do anything soon. Smith will not be part of our future. The team thought getting Smith would be a draw and help take our minds off of another losing season. They were wrong as they have been for a long time.

ALL THE FANS WANT IS A WINNER!

aj it may not make "much" of a difference but it could make some of a difference.

The thing that needs to be addressed is that a team should put there most talented players on the field in every situation. If anybody that thinks at this point in Emmitts career that he is a better runner than Shipp is smoking some serious crack!

Shipp is far and away fresher, stronger, and faster than Emmitt!

You can see the authority with which they run is clearly different.

I agree that Emmitt is the better RB at picking up the blitz. But that is it. A RBs primary duty is to run the ball and catch some coming out of the backfield. Shipp is better at both!

I dont think we signed Emmitt to be the highest payed blitz picker upper in the NFL!

Everyone can preach leadership all they want. But this team is going nowhere. Especially with this defense. Better to give our team the best chance of winning and developing Shipps blitz pick up abilities by giving him the necessary reps to do so!

Smith should never have been signed!

All that being said Emmitt has been a nice suprise overall but he still shouldnt be starting just because his name is Emmitt. Theres a guy over on the bench that EARNED every right to start and he should be!

Completely agree with Shane..

....he really summed it up best. While I would definitely classify Emmitt as a "pleasant surprise", anyone who watched Shipp last year (and even in a few of his carries this season) can easily detect the rather wide gap in burst and overall quickness (between Shipp & Emmitt). While Emmitt did eventually score on 4th down, Shipp (and any other back with even a scintilla of confidence in his speed) would have bounced that 2nd down carry to the left and won the footrace to the pylon. While I am really not "anti-Emmitt", just far more "pro-Shipp".

Logically, Coach Mac will give Emmitt the ball as much as possible next week vs. Dallas - but after that let's hope he sees the light and starts Shipp. Marcel unquestionably earned that right last season.

Logically, his signing had nothing to do with football (unless you count football jersey sales), so no on-the-field solution deserves consideration nor does it garner any serious thought from the Cards organization. Shipp will start right after the Cards pull all those Emmitt commercials from circulation. In other words, there's always next year.

Hopefully.

With this o-line...maybe we did.

I'll admit, I was calling for Waldrop's head last year. Guess it wasn't necessarily him. Looks like we simply have just a "gulp" lousy offensive line.

Why ?

From what I read, most people think on review they are picking up their man, so what is the problem ?

Other than Big is out

I was wondering if anyone was going to pose the question regarding Shipp/Smith. I was thinking it today at the game. First of all, let me say I don't know if either runner would have done very well against the Rams today. They seemed to be "On". But I really think Shipp would have made that game different. Maybe I'm wrong, it's happened before. I love Emmitt's leadership, I really do. I just think Shipp is the stronger back. He doesn't have the moves Smith still possesses, but he's the better back that, I think, gives us a better chance of winning. Maybe the OLine has dropped off from last year: remember Jones, Shipp and Anderson ALL ran VERY well in the games that they played--when healthy. Question is, does Mac have the courage to bench Emmitt and start Shipp? Remember, only YOU can prevent forest fires...and SHIPP HAPPENS!!!! Peace

I don't really care who starts, but I think it is a disservice to have Marcel on the bench for the whole game. I say 50-50 on the touches in the first half and then go with the better man in the second half.

This is just silly, how could either one make a difference if you only run 14 times. All the Cards had to do was play a conservative game and the Rams would have handed them the game. That is what the Rams do, they turn over the ball.

The Cards need to focus on the run game. Just because you are down by a TD or two in the first half doesn't mean you give up and just start throwing hailmarys....

Emmitt ran very well yesterday, in the limited carries he had.

His first two were big gainers.

Being down 17-0 kind of makes this team abandon the run too quickly, IMO. It didn't help being down 23-7 on their first possesion of the second half.

Emmitt is doing just fine, thank you. Shipp is overrated in some of the Cards' fans eyes, IMO. He's a good back, but he's no worldbeater. We have been a mess at RB for a long, long time. Emmitt is the most consistent back we've had here.

Really? Are you saying this as a Cardinal or over his career. Because if its as a Cardinal that statement makes no sense at all!
