Have you noticed that he's added a low post move (probably courtesy of Olajuwon)? I think he's a top 10 center right now and he'll be even better when his thumb heals.

Also, Lopez is looking a bit more like his old self. My biggest concern with Robin is that he seems to have only learned one thing from Amare. He's mastered the art of pissing off the refs.

Lopez constantly whines so he deserves it. I'd like to get excited about Lopez but he'll always be inconsistent unfortunately. Gortat has the agility, IQ, and skill set to be a terrific center in this league.

That's my point. Lopez shows up the refs regularly (something Amare was a natural at) and because of that, he never catches a break. Actually, it's even worse than with Amare. Lopez will whine and throw a little tantrum even when he's in the wrong, something Amare rarely did.

The 09-10 Robin Lopez was promising. Now I do not know where he is headed but his stats have diminished thus far over the past two seasons. All I know is that some nights he doesn't look like he belongs on the floor. I'd still like to keep him if he can be re-signed reasonably as a back-up for Gortat or perhaps traded for a late first round pick in the upcoming draft.

Did you see last night how Gortat was manning up to Bynum and making him work and when Robin came in, Bynum backed him down and worked him right away a couple times in a row?

It's like even Bynum knew Robin was a joke on the floor.

Gortat outplayed Bynum last night.

Loved the "Dream Shake" in the first quarter. He must have picked that up from Hakeem last Summer.

Gortat has actually developed some nice offensive moves since last season.

Just think, Amare and Gortat would have been one of the best PF/C combos in the league. All these years the Suns have been looking for a legitimate C. They finally got one. But it's too late.

Nash
Richardson
Hill
Amare
Gortat

And yes, that could have happened considering the Suns DRAFTED Gortat in 05. He was traded for "Cash", who unfortunately never suited up with the Suns.

Legit championship squad, just glad we got that cash!

The contract that Amare got from the Knicks is toxic. They are already showing signs of regret. I dont fault mgmt for not keeping Amare. I fault them for not getting something for him. I bet Kerr told Sarver that Amare was going to get this type of offer and Sarver didnt believe it.

The Suns have sayings or themes that change every season, but it should remain just one thing: "penny-wise, pound-foolish."

Perhaps, but I'm pretty sure he'd continue to dominate here in PHX with Nash and the others. Obviously he's always going to have to terrible weaknesses defensively, but Gortat would make up for some of that.

Exactly...it's not Amare's fault that they built a completely misguided squad around him. Melo and Amare on the same team is just stupid. Further, for all the bellyaching about his health, he was healthy for the majority of last year despite being run into the ground by D'A, and it's hard to argue he'd be any less effective here playing with Nash. They were the perfect pick and roll combo.

I think it's a little early to crow about what a good decision it was to get rid of Amare, especially considering how much more entertaining last year/this year would be with him.

Today I`ve been talking with my friend about centers in NBA and we couldn`t agree if Gortat can be considered as one of the top centers in this league. I said that except maybe 5 teams he can play in every team as a starter, he undervalue my opinion sayin` that he can be just consider as mediocre center who is shinin` because of poor Suns performance. What do you think about his actual position in NBA?

Now that the splint is off, he is solid in scoring and rebounds on a consistent basis. How can anyone call him mediocre at this point?

And, now that he is not being played for eighteen consecutive minutes in each half, as he was to close last season, we can expect stamina through each game and the season. Especially with Lopez and Frye both seeing some time at Center to back him up. And Morris showing quick development as a strong force at Power Forward.

Well behind the obvious top 3 or so there are like 15 centers who you could argue depending of what you like in your center.

Gortat probably has the best contract of all centers in the league right now that are not on rookie deals.
But he can opt out after next year.

Howard, Bynum, Bogut, Monroe, Cousins have a pretty good case over Gortat and then you have Marc Gasol, Noah, Hibbert who are pretty much on the same level.

Every time I looked at the screen vs. the Spurs tonight, Gortat and Duncan were guarding each other.

Gortat finished with 24 points and 15 boards. Duncan had 24 and 11. Each led his team in scoring and rebounding.

Anyone who calls Gortat mediocre in the future should be banished to the Valley View Casino Center (formerly the San Diego Sports Arena, the home of the San Diego Clippers).

Take off the splint and The Hammer returns. And, more concerned with helping the Suns than his stats, he played with one hand until recently.

Following Dudley's 6 rebounds and Morris' 3, Lopez, Frye and Hill each had 2 tonight. Lopez-2. Frye-2. Hill-2.

Whereas following Nash's 10 assists, Price has 7 in 13 minutes.

Right now, our MNP's (most needed players) are Gortat (1a) and Nash (1b).

Props to Frye, I Eat Crow
Not so fast, Big Guy! He is back in his funk.

They showed a commercial during the game tonight in which Frye says, "They call me a geek. Yes, I am a geek."

Gortat at 6'11"-240 is The Hammer. Frye at 6'11"-245 is The Geek. Now, which nickname puts more fear into the hearts of our opponents? :)

I think Frye might be in for a long year. This team needs more from him than he's capable of giving. In fact, I'd put Dudley in there with him. These guys can be valuable role players on a team with 3 or 4 offensive threats but all we really have is Nash and Gortat. It's a shame we finally have a pretty good big guy and nothing to put around him.

Yep, we have 2 starters, and a bunch of 6-10 guys. It's just an awful mix.

Gortat's impact isn't in the win column. However, we know from experience that having one of the best players at his position in Nash for several years doesn't necessarily translate into wins or titles either. However, I think Gortat is making his case for being one of the best Centers in the NBA.

Team Overall Ranking from the Center Position:
Diff.eff (5.4) = Phoenix #4
PPG (20.4) = Phoenix #4
BPG (2.1) = Phoenix #13
RPG (14.3) = Phoenix #10
FG% (.551) = Phoenix #4
Eff (28.1) = Phoenix #3
Deff (5.4) = Phoenix #5
Paint Scoring = Phoenix #4

Gortats #'s so far:

PPG - #5
RPG #11 (less than 1 RPG separates him from top 5)
DRB - #5
BPG #13
FG% #1
efficiency #6
Double Doubles #5

Seriously...... we couldn't ask for much more out of the Center position this year. Gortat not only is proving himself on this team but it proving he is one of the best centers in the NBA. It's a dream come true for those of us wishing we had a longer term solution at center. If this team could somehow get one more legit player in the lineup this team could do some damage IMO.
