Another pick tonight, its amazing all the issues the Cards have had and the CB2 spot has not been one of them.

I have seen him miss a couple of tackles however ill say that from the sample size we have, he is at least as good as Powers.

Huge find.

I Honestly thought CB2 would be our biggest concern this season. Funny how things change

Disagree... CB2 is a problem. Cooper is not as good or as reliable as Powers... and what he did tonight was essentially hit a double off a AA pitcher. We'll take it of course, but CB2 remains an issue for this team.

I like the kid, but - did he break an ankle on a juke late in the game or what? He looked silly on that play.

Agreed. I like Cooper's potential going forward, but despite the pics, he's often getting picked on at this point.

I never understood why people seem to think Powers was that good. I thought he was below average. Every time a big play happened, I would look and see the back Powers jersey running after. I agree that Cooper needs to buckle down on tackling better but he's made plays in the short time he has been here. It could be argued that Cooper should get better as he learns the nuances of the defense. He didn't have an offseason or entire preseason to get acclimated.

In other news, Cooper did get me 6 points in my fantasy league that has defensive players on the roster. :)

Totally agree, Powers was horrible. That is why the Cards didn't resign him.

He's the best option we will have for the remainder of the year. Look for a replacement in the draft, preferably someone who has played the position more than a year.

Hes a very bad tackler. Like Cromartie family bad tackler.

but it seems when the balls in the air, hes got good odds to pick it or swat it.

FWIW, I didn't say anything about Powers being "that good". I believe he's better than Cooper. That's all...

Cooper didnt have a very good night when you take out the INT. He was out of position on a number of pass plays and got turned around on some double moves.

He is the best option on the roster. He isn't terrible. If we had a simpler scheme and better coverage out of the S position, he would be in a better position to be successful. There is so much confusion on this defense because there are so many moving parts, it seems like a win if we get set before the snap.

This. Cooper doesn't seem to use the sideline very well, which is something that's the difference between average corners and replaceable ones. Cooper should be getting help over the top, but Swearinger is no dependable to deliver it on time.

Against a league average quarterback, Cooper would have looked pretty embarrassing in this game. He's the best option we have, but we shouldn't confuse that with being a good option.

The bottom line is the Cards dont need anything more than average play out of the spot. At least he is within a yard of the receiver every time unlike Bethel and Williams who could be 5 yards away with their heads turned. Teams also know he can make plays on the ball. As we all know, anyone on the other side of PP is going to give up some catches as they become the number one option on a play when they normally would not.

now can we talk about Swearinger? I guess he's ok in run support but he seems completely lost in coverage. AS K9 said you just can't rely on him being where he's supposed to be.

Dropped an easy pick last night too and had another player where if he goes for the ball it might be a pick but he was going to try and light the defender up then changed his mind and wound up lucky the guy didn't make the catch.

Yeah. I thought Tyvon Branch was unremarkable/bad in the Honey Badger role before he got injured, but I'm pretty sure he'd be less bad than Swearinger if he were playing a more traditional FS role. I think Tony Jefferson ends up looking a lot like Rashad Johnson if you throw him back there, as well.

Marquis Christian must have been pretty bad not to be able to break through with this group.

The Panthers just cut Benwikere. Fans say he's a good slot corner but struggled playing as the #1 CB. Haven't seen enough of him to know if he's better than Cooper, but some of you might. What do you think?

Not that Cooper has blazing speed but the difference between him and Powers was that Powers was (an important) half-step slower.

I really like Cooper and feel he is a big upgrade for us at #2CB. He usually has tight coverage and that is a big improvement over Brandon Williams. He has been burned a few times and he has won a few times...life of a CB opposite PP. He definitely needs to tighten up his tackling in space but he seems to be a very willing tackler on running plays.

Not sure what he said to Carlos Hyde after tackling him---but that was a huge PF penalty that Hyde committed at that point in the game. Like TheCardFan, I can see why the Cardinals were interested in Marcus Cooper---he has the size, length and speed they covet in a RCB. I could them try to re-sign him to a 3 year deal.
