So is he going to play for his new team today?
I'll be rooting for him and Wade to play really well and give the Lakers grief. Oh and some playing time for Banks, too! Good luck, Shawn.

I agree....I hope nothing but the best for the Matrix. I am a huge fan and will continue to cheer for him, as long as hes not playing the Suns. He will be dearly missed

From the Miami Herald on today's game.

Like Pat Riley says below I think Marion's energy will be contageous on the Heat team. Marion always seems to bring great energy on the court.

Meet the new Heat

The Shawn Marion and Marcus Banks era will begin in earnest Sunday against the Los Angeles Lakers, but the duo got a taste of what life will be like with the Heat in their first practice Saturday. The newly acquired players from the Phoenix Suns even had to wear knee pads.

''It was totally different than a Mike D'Antoni practice,'' point guard Banks said.

After being traded for Shaquille O'Neal on Wednesday, Banks and Marion will face a familiar foe in the Lakers. Both said they hope their knowledge of the Lakers helps in their Heat debut. With Udonis Haslem (sprained ankle) sidelined, the 6-7 Marion said he expects to play mostly at power forward.

Marion said it will probably take four or five games to get comfortable with his new teammates and playing in coach Pat Riley's system. He's also adjusting to life in Miami.

''Until I get a few games under my belt, it's going to be a weird feeling,'' Marion said. ``Emotions are shaky; your feelings are kind of erratic. I'm trying to get calm and settled. I ain't been able to sleep right yet.

"I'm very excited. I'm nervous.''

Riley said Marion had a noticeable impact in practice, sinking every shot in the scrimmage, making every layup and pass. He also had no turnovers, Riley said.

And Marion brought energy.

''One thing that is going to be contagious is that with the kind of energy he has, our guys will have to bring their energy level up,'' Riley said.

SUNDAY: LAKERS AT HEAT

• When: 3:30 p.m.

• Where: AmericanAirlines Arena.

• TV/radio: Chs. 10, 25; WIOD (610), WQBA (1140, Spanish).

• The series: Lakers lead 25-13.

• The game: The Heat plays the Lakers in the first of two meetings this season. At stake: Miami's franchise-tying, three-game home winning streak against Los Angeles. . . . The Lakers are coming off of a 117-113 overtime victory Friday against the Orlando Magic. Center Pau Gasol, who last week was traded from Memphis to L.A., scored 30 points on 12-of-15 shooting and had nine rebounds against the Magic. Kobe Bryant scored 36 points, one game after dislocating his right pinkie finger.

I don't think I'm ready to see Marion playing in a Heat jersey yet although I wish him well. No doubt he will provide the Heat tremendous energy and give them 100% like he always did for Phoenix. He will always be a Sun to me. It's true, sometimes one does not miss anyone until their gone.

I wish he had never said anything about wanting to be traded because I think he stuck his foot in the door. IMO, it would have been much harder to trade him otherwise at least from a fans perspective. The other Suns trade that really stung me more was the trade of Jeff Hornacek. I guess to get something one has to give up something.

It will be weird watching him play for another team, when just a few days ago he was a Sun. Today is a great day for basketball; all four televised games have something interesting to watch for.

In a van...down by the river.
Gutsy win by the Celtics. Spurs still cruising? When will that not become an excuse for getting outplayed i wonder?
Horry is a piece of $hit. No talent over-the-hill thug.
He does NOTHING.

Game on.
Nice job by the Celtics. I hope we match their energy when we play them. They seemed to be doing everything. Nice to watch.

Did Bill Walton just refer to Shaq as "heavy toxic waste"? He said something like the Miami playing spirited and relieved now that they've dumped that heavy toxic waste out to a desert landfill. Giving your opinion is something, but that I thought that was a little much. :(
Boo Bill Walton, hurray beer!

I think both Shaq and Marion were unhappy in Miami/Phoenix and as a result hurting their teams and becoming lightning rods for the displeasure of the fans. In each's new situation , they have the chance to revitalize both the team and fanbase.
