Looks like the Mavs have found a gem but they locked him up for only a 1-year deal which means he will be FA this offseason and the Mavs couldn't offer him more than the MLE even if they wanted.

Signing him for anything close or more than the MLE might look outrageous to some people but he is one of the top 10 rookies in this strong rookie class.

His last 4 games
21 points 8 rebounds 7 assists 3 steals 1 block against Houston
30 points 8 rebounds 7 assists 4 steals against Memphis
21 points 7 rebounds 6 assists 2 steals against Golden State
33 points 5 rebounds 3 assists 2 steals against Seattle

I only saw the game against Memphis and he was marvellous. With some lazer passes in the post.

11ppg 4rpg 3apg in just 25mpg in March.
And better than 20ppg 6rpg 5apg 2spg in 40mpg in April.

Pretty impressive for a rookie.

He is 6'6, turned 23 in January and plays PG and SG on the Mavs.

I would say that if we don't draft a guard or sign Kobe. He would definately be high on the list.
We need one more quality guard in our rotation. Being able to play both positions is a big plus.

A lot of people have been raving about him. About the only fly in the oinment is his low three point shooting percentage of 27.3%.

Well for a rookie to have only one real flaw that's not bad. He can still hit the threes already and has a nice midrange game and arsenal at getting to the hoop.

3pt shooting is something that most players devellop after they get into the league.

That's a fairly interesting idea, but I'd sure like to see him do it for a longer period of time first. Bob Sura has put up amazing numbers over the last month too, but I don't think anyone here would be too thrilled about giving him a contract for more than the MLE.

I wouldn't give Sura a contract for more than HALF the MLE!

Daniels is intriguing--but with this "performance" and him being so young, he'll probably be too expensive.

Of course, we can be like several people on this board want us to be and overpay just because we have the money...

He has not done enough to justify more than $2.5 million and I'm sure Dallas will come up with it as part of their MLE. It is really hard to steal players from a team with no financial limitations.

I like the idea. It would be a real looking forward type of signing.
This guy may be ready to come into his own and the Suns need backcourt scoring off the bench in the worst way.

I agree, but I'm expecting they are looking for a veteran who can start at least some of the time.

I agree they do need to add some veteran leadership to the team. Or retain some veterans leadership (McDyess). One nice thing about the impending summer FA season, they have some options.
I like Brent Barry as a player, but I think he may be to expensive (for his age). I kind of like Ginobili as a young player that has playoff experience and an outside game.

Also, while he might not have this much NBA experience as some of the other guys he did play 4 years of college ball. I think a team like Atlanta or Utah might give him more than other teams.

i'm a little worried about signing him for such an abbreviated performance. while he seems like a potentially special player, so did negele knight for a brief period when kj was injured years ago. knight had a string of like 6 or 8 games where he played like an all-star. we all know that knight never panned out into an all-star. just my worry. but for the right $$$ he might be worth a flyer.

The Suns haven't completely abandoned regular-size basketball, that's why.

Seriously, Dallas' system and their stars make a lot of role players look good. Even the Bricklayer looks decent (at times) in a Mavs uni.

Since he was not drafted and signed with a one year contract, the Mavs have no Bird rights on him. They would have to use money from the MLE. I would think that the Mavs will be focused on geting a power player with that money, so they may not be able to afford him and get a power player.

It's obviously early, but if we get a really solid starting point guard down the road who isn't Barbosa, I think Leandro could be a great combo guard to come off the bench and give us some instant offense.

I'm guessing the Suns are hoping that Vujanic is the guy. Last night on the post game show, they showed some highlight reels of his play. If nothing else, he is very good at running the break.

One of the reasons I like the idea of getting someone like Brent Barry is that he can play either guard positions pretty well. If Vujanic is as good as they say, Barry would get minutes anyway. Getting a pure pass first PG would not work if Vujanic is the main guy.

Please add Brent Barry to my list of players that the Phoenix Suns will not seriously pursue. He could definitely help the Suns, but he's going to cost too much. I think he would be a great fit in San Antonio

I think you are absolutely right! Mavs and Kings make players look a lot better then they really are, though I must say that I am really impressed with this kid.

I am beginning to think his price is going to be way out of line. His name comes up second on shooters in every article I've read (yeh, Kobe is first). But of course if it is money, then the number of teams drops off dramatically.
He will get at least $18 over three years.

My guess is that Denver is the most serious alternative over him re-signing with Seattle (their writers bring up his name quite often). I really doubt that San Antonio is going to mess with their current guard group which I predict they will re-sign. The Clippers would be a bigger threat if they weren't the Clippers in that they have the cap space and need a PG.

I'm surprised that his name doesn't come up more often with Utah. However, they are reluctant to pay a huge amount. Last season they had two RFA offers get matched.

None the less, I think he will re-sign with Seattle since he is considered a key to keeping Ray Allen.

He is the best player for the Mavs right now and it is his first playoff game only.

He just has a knack for getting open when he is moving without the ball and spots up close to the basket.
Also he did a great job taking advantage of Bibby in the post when he was running the point for Dallas.

11 points 3 rebounds 3 assists 4 steals 2 blocks for Marquis in the first half.

I'm very impressed by Daniels. I'd love him on the Suns, but a rookie with this kind of performance in the Playoffs will demand more money than I hope we're willing to pay for a 2nd year point guard.

Yeah Tyronn Lue got a nice little pay day after his showing in the Playoffs a few years ago.... no way the Suns pay Daniels

I'm a little lost here. Marquise Daniels isn't a point guard. He's a versatile shooting guard. Secondly, Daniels has already showed more than Lue. On top of that he has nice size and Lue is an undersized point guard.

I'm not saying the Phoenix Suns should sign him, but I do think he's going to get a nice offer from somebody. He looks worthy of a decent offer from what I've seen. I don't think he'll end up like Eddie Robinson, Lue, or Austin Croshere, especially if he ends up on the right team. I think he would be a nice fit in Utah.

Sorry, I don't think anybody said he won't be signed to a good deal. I'm confused, are you just disagreeing that he's a "point guard"? You have a point, but he was passing just like a point guard all game today.
