Sorry, I don't think anybody said he won't be signed to a good deal. I'm confused, are you just disagreeing that he's a "point guard"? You have a point, but he was passing just like a point guard all game today.

no, I really wasn't trying to disagree with anything. I just didn't understand about the point guard. I thought maybe you are talking about something from earlier in this thread. I understand now. It sure looks like Daniels and JJ our very, very similar players. JJ is just slightly bigger.

It will be interesting to see how much he gets this summer. If the Phoenix Suns goal is to sign a free-agent center like Okur and a perimeter player I wouldn't complain if they gave him a contract around $2-4 to start in the backcourt with JJ or come off the bench. I'm just not sure it would be enough to get anything done.

I'm not really sure I know what people on this board are looking for in a point guard, much less what the Suns are thinking.

It seems to me the point guard is expected to several things:

Initiate the offense without turnovers
Pass well and hit the open man
Run the break
Guard a very quick opponent
Penitrate and kick out
Hit open jump shots
Steady the team when they are under pressure

The truth is that no one is outstanding at every aspect of the job. TJ Ford had a huge impact on the Bucks before his injury and is a terrible shot. Steve Nash is excellant at running the team and shooting, but is not very good at defense. Whatever the Suns do other than Kobe is going to mean getting someone who is not going to do everything wanted.

I could certainly see the Suns trying to get Daniels if they cannot get Kobe. They might sign Daniels even if they can't figure out whether he or JJ would play the point.

Is this the best option? That I can't say.
