To be honest, that has been a small fear in the back of mind for some time now.

Peterson is a far more dynamic prospect than Rolle ever was. It's not even close. The kid thrives in press coverage (which means he could excel in the slot or edge right away) and he has the burners to give you swift deep patrol if you want him in that role...plus he electrifies your return game.

Much better athlete. Much better player all around.

I get that Maycock is one of the best in the business but his opinion isn't a religion.

The thing about Mayock is that he is fantastic at analyzing DB. Also he isn't the 1st person to project him more as a safety than a CB. I don't know about the Rolle comparison though, he's much bigger and more athletic.

They are alot a like coming out. Both are better at press coverage and both are bigger corners that are as they say just a little stiff in the hips. I don't see what the big deal is. Antrel Rolle would have been a very good press corner if he was used that way. Same as Peterson. Give either of them some backup behind them and they are very good. If you put either of them against a very fast shifty receiver in the open field they will be outrun. Same type of player, but I think Peterson is a little better.

Difference is that Peterson has wheels.

I think Peterson is faster than Rolle ever was but it's certainly possible he could be moved to S at some point. It doesn't bother me because if people hadn't noticed, we WILL have a need at S. Wilson is a liability in coverage, I like Rhodes a lot but I would not have an issue with drafting a kid who's a great football player who might move to S down the line a bit.

My issue with Rolle was always we desperately needed a CB, and took the one that was clearly going to have issues playing CB and then it took us years to realize he was a S.

Let's wait until the combine before we make matter of fact statements about Peterson's athleticism.

Definitely true but before the season it was reported he ran a 4.37 at an LSU workout and apparently LSU has a reputation for being pretty reliable with their 40 times. I think he's bigger now than he was then so we'll see.

Contrast that with Rolle who ran essentially a 4.5 in his Miami pro day and people were questioning that 40 time as being due to a fast surface. I don't recall what he ran at the combine.

It's not just 40 times of course if Peterson really is stiff, it'll show in the workouts teams put them through and he'll fall.

True, but he kind of scares me after watching him in the bowl game where he seemed to play off receivers and they caught a lot of balls in front of him.

I remember thinking at the time that he either doesn't have the speed or he has trouble turning to run with the receivers so thats why he played off them.

I admit I haven't seen a lot of him and he does break on the ball well but that was my impression of the bowl game.

I know what you're saying but look at the some of the latest Defensive MVP's- Reed, Sanders, Polamalu. I would take a DMVP at 5. Of course PP would still have to become DMVP.

If you have watched any college football, you already knew this. He is going to be a huge bust at corner.
