I was clamoring for Ray Lucas a few months ago, because I wasn't sure if McCown belonged in the NFL. After the first 3 games, I believe he belongs, but needs time to get the kinks out of his game. If Blake goes down, we are screwed either way imo.

It's all about percentages, and keeping your options open, IMO. For argument's sake, let's say the Cardinals get off to a 3-2 start, and Blake goes down with a four-week injury.
What will you do? The Cards aren't out of anything, with a winning record after five games, and you'll have Blake back early in the 2nd half of the season. If it's me, I want a backup QB who I think gives me a good chance to win at least half the games that Blake misses.
I don't think Josh McCown is that guy, at least not yet. I think the Cards would have a better chance with either Lucas or Feeley behind center. (Or Alex Van Pelt, or Shaun King, to name two other experienced backups who might be had for the right price.)
Sure, if the Cards have no shot at the postseason with a month to go, let McCown start 2-3 games, get some regular season reps and see what he can do. But don't go into the season ready to write it off if Blake goes down.
