Oh I understand all that, but is he good enough that we can win with him? I don't think so, and it would be foolish not to give the young guy (McCown) some time if Blake goes down.

I was clamoring for Ray Lucas a few months ago, because I wasn't sure if McCown belonged in the NFL. After the first 3 games, I believe he belongs, but needs time to get the kinks out of his game. If Blake goes down, we are screwed either way imo.

It's all about percentages, and keeping your options open, IMO. For argument's sake, let's say the Cardinals get off to a 3-2 start, and Blake goes down with a four-week injury.

What will you do? The Cards aren't out of anything, with a winning record after five games, and you'll have Blake back early in the 2nd half of the season. If it's me, I want a backup QB who I think gives me a good chance to win at least half the games that Blake misses.

I don't think Josh McCown is that guy, at least not yet. I think the Cards would have a better chance with either Lucas or Feeley behind center. (Or Alex Van Pelt, or Shaun King, to name two other experienced backups who might be had for the right price.)

Sure, if the Cards have no shot at the postseason with a month to go, let McCown start 2-3 games, get some regular season reps and see what he can do. But don't go into the season ready to write it off if Blake goes down.

You're probably right. But with a few lucky bounces (like in our playoff year) we may have a shot. But come to think of it, luck isn't usually one of our strong points is it?

I am just not ready to think this is a playoff team...especially after losing 2 starters for the year and a third should be starter for a few weeks.

Lucky bounces. Take a look at my thread I started "Thoughts from a Bears fan" and read point 3 which is directly about bounces and calls. Things have seemingly bounced the Cards way thus far during the preseason and if that continues that may be the difference between 7-9 (which has been my predicition from the get go) and 9-7.

Also, what we have seen this preseason is nice but the qualifying word in there is preseason. Not saying it hasn;t been nice but even preseason football isn't 100% speed regular season football (according to John Mistler). Once the regular season starts, then we will know exactly what this Cards team looks like.

I am eyeing the koolaid glass right now and am getting thirsty but not parched yet.
