I want another big guy as much as anyone but it is a waste to sign someone that won't ever play anyway like Taylor or White.

That's true. We already have one career benchwarmer in PB and I doubt I'm the only one who cringes on those rare occasions when they do put him in for a few minutes. Any kind of upgrade would be an improvement, but the supply of effective big men is limited and that's probably not going to change any time soon. Maybe they should just pull Mark West out of retirement.

"How about if the Suns just extend Diaw and Amare and the rest of the Suns stay healthy."

Best thought yet.
I thought Amare's contract was already extended.
Regardless, not too early to start counting the days to Halloween. I'm even taking my annual broom ride the night before ........

My punctuation could have been better. Indeed, Stoudemire's contract was extended prior to the microfracture surgery. I'll go back and try to clear up my meaning a tad. As LB was already extended, getting Diaw extended is the next major order of business.

I loved the intimidation factor of having White. I remember one time he got the ball at the foul line and drove the basket, causing everyone to clear out. No one in his right mind was going to take a charge from Jahidi.

None the less, White's hands of stone, unbelievably bad foul shooting, and conditioning made him too much of liability to have on the floor.

White's conditioning problem is similar to Tractor Traylor's. Traylor at least has pretty good hands and could score. But while even if Traylor did not have health issues with his heart, he could not have keep up with the Sun's pace. Jahidi's worse.

George, I think Nash's passing could make White's hands look much better. Anyway I think Nash could find a way to get White the ball inside. White might also be able to grab a few rebounds and get some garbage points.

I agree White would probably get very little playing time unless there is an injury or the game is slowed down in the playoffs. He essentially would be a cheap insurance policy (if he could be had for the veteran minimum) to play spot minutes. He would also serve as my "Hummer."

I would have went after Jackie Butler and Elson like the Spurs but as it looks now we have a 4/5 rotation of Thomas, Stoudamire, and Diaw with a 3 combo of JJ1, JJ2, and Marion, and a 1/2 of Bell, Barbosa, Banks, and Nash so minutes are going to be scarce.

I know Elson went to the Spurs for more than the veteran minimum. I don't know the story about Butler. I think the veteran minimum is all the Suns would be willing to spend for a 14th slot. I'm glad the Suns spent apparently their budget limit on Banks. A backup PG was the greatest area of need for the Suns this offseason as I view it.

If you want to know a player that might be had for the right price [maybe pick(s) and a player], who I really like... ?

IMO, Victor Khryapa, would be an absolute perfect fit for the Suns frontline, now or somewhere in the future. I think he is a real sleeper to many fans. If he could be picked up in a trade at anywhere near a reasonable price ( I would want his contract extended if possible prior to the trade), he would be a great acquisition. I know many on this board already know of his ability.

Hoopshype has Elson at $3 million this year and Butler at $2 million.

Elson looked pretty good in the games I've seen him in. However, I find it revealing that the Nuggets decided to re-sign Evens and let Elson go even though he was a restricted free agent.

Elson is actually less of a scoring threat than Evans in addition to being nowhere near the rebounder, so I could see the Nugz reasoning there. That doesn't make Elson any worse or better presuming they were forced into making a choice between them. If they had the money and roster slot for Elson and didn't pick up his contract that would be a lot worse. On the other hand the Spurs picked up Elson and they have at least as good a track record at signing useful players as Denver.

My read on it is that Elson looks like a nice backup type center, but he's expected to be a starter with the Spurs.

I agree with this. He's a scappy player with decent size and he's a rebounder. Chicago has an abundance of forwards and might deal him.

Ely's rebounding is roughly the same as that of Khryapa, but at .20 per minute neither is really much on the boards.

I'm just giving you my expert scouting analysis. :)

Stats are not always indicative of ability. Sometimes certain teams just do not have a clue how to use a versatile frontline player such as Khryapa.

Please don't tell any other team how good he can be. Not many people thought much of Diaw before he came here either.

The Charlotte Observer yesterday reported that Bickerstaff told them that he has "tentative" deals on the table from BOTH the Warriors and Suns for Melvin Ely. The question comes to what kind of contract he would get from the teams. So it sounds like it's in his agent's hands, and is sort of a minor bidding war.

Excerpt from the article playstation gave the link for:

Charlotte Bobcats restricted free agent Melvin Ely today signed a one-year qualifying offer with the team, worth about $3.3 million.

The Bobcats had been looking to work out a sign-and-trade deal with the Phoenix Suns or Golden State Warriors. Ely signing the qualifying offer will more than likely keep him in Charlotte this season.
