Calkins: Take that song. "By the Time I Get To Phoenix" was first recorded by Johnny Rivers. It was a big hit. A year before that, however, Rivers had another big hit. The name of that song? "Memphis."

That's Phoenix, for you. Always playing catch-up.
Uh, not so. "By The Time I Get To Phoenix" was first recorded by Glen Campbell (who lived in Phoenix), not Johnny Rivers.

And Rivers, who made a career out of covering other artist's hits, covered "Memphis", which was written, and originally recorded by, Chuck Berry.

The there was the instrumental hit of "Memphis" by Lonnie Mack.

Then, Johnny Rivers did his cover version.

There's a Memphis writer for you . . . not able to keep up. :thud:

That is funny ...

Weather:

Memphis: sufferers of hurricane backlash
Phoenix: bright sun with some cloud cover
Edge, Phoenix

Winter:

Memphis: highs in the 40's, lots of snow?
Phoenix: highs in the 60's, warm skies
Edge, Phoenix

As for it not being green enough, Arizona is the state with the most golf courses per capita. Yeah, Edge Phoenix.

As for the Cards, I've never asked them for anything but 8-8. The year we hit 9-7, they made the playoffs and signaled an end to Aikman's career.

Bit of trivia: back in '84-'85, Phoenix campaigned to get the Eagles to Phoenix. They were eager to leave Philly after 2 seasons with hardly a sellout. They told the Philly fans that if they didn't see the support they were headed west. That season, Philly sold out 12 games despite blowing chunks on the field. So think of it, we could have had the Phoenix Eagles. Talk about a respectable bird.
NBA wise: Edge, Phoenix like Amare over Gasol anyday!

well - now you know better! :D

Just sick of the Cards bashing when most football fans can clearly see that things are changing for the boys - especially after so many years of having to endure the wretchedness that they had been for decades with the taunting (rightly so) that went with it.

Amen! And a toast to that!

And i just realized the above post is very old and now that we are 0-2 cheesbeef might change his tune. I'll have to ask him.

But not me. To that and i say I still love my cards and its going to take a worse start than this to turn me off:koolaid: .
Besides my passion for the Cardinals seems to coexist with one of my other favorite past times.
