Miami seems to be slowly emerging in the Amare sweepstake, and according to a Yahoo! Sports article this morning, "no one is more determined to land Stat than Pat Riley"

http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news?slug=aw-stoudemireheat020910&prov=yhoo&type=lgns

A lot of interesting stuff in the article but nothing really new. I don't understand why we are not persuing this more...

The Suns said they want a combination of young talent, draft picks, and Cap relief. The heat have said they are not opposed to including their 2010 pick... and the heat have two huge expiring contracts the Suns could use...

A trade of Amare and Jason Richardson to Heat for Beasley/O'neil/2010 unprotected pick, would give the Suns all three things they are looking for, still give them a chance this year, AND put the AT LEAST 13-15 million UNDER the cap.....

Why the hell wouldn't we do this trade?

The Heat won't take Richardson. If the Suns do a trade with the Heat, it will be something like Stoudemire/Amundson for Beasley/Haslem/filler(Wright)/pick. Which I would be fine with, by the way.

Maybe Wade said he'll stay if they get Amare.

In August, Beasley checked into a rehab clinic. Since then, he’s been on the right path. And even though he’s now legal to drink in bars and clubs, Beasley has made a commitment to stay on the right path. SI.com reported that he’s guided by his own moral compass, which includes AA meetings in Miami as well as ongoing league-administered counseling.
The difference in Beasley’s attitude is profound and you can see it on the court as well as off the court. He’s taking some important steps now that will ensure his maturity and growth down the road. Perhaps that is something Gilbert Arenas should have done as well.

I think the Heat may be forced to make the move just to get Wade to consider staying. The better for us, hopefully Kerr can get a good deal done with someone. I'll take a 21 year old Beasley any day of the week.

The NBA is irrelevant anymore to me. When I turn it on I get the "game is fixed" feeling. I already see a Laker/Celtic or Cleveland finals. Boring.... Refs have way to much of a outcome on the game and are made out like fools with flopping calls etc

This would be about the only suggested trade proposal that would make any sense. We'd have an adequate replacement at SF and PF, and would at least have a young player to build around. Other than this proposal, I'd rather keep Stat.

The original trade proposed in this thread (Beasley/O'Neal/#1) would be the best of all worlds for this team. If that's on the table, stop wasting time.

The 2nd trade (Beasley/Haslem/Wright/#1) is a very good trade that I would pull the trigger on as well. Obviously, I am less enthusiastic about this one because we would lose Lou and we'd keep JRich, but I'd do that deal.

If we find a way to lose Amare/JRich while keeping Amundson/Dudley/Clark/Dragic and adding youth (Beasley) and a pick, we come out WAAAY ahead. Then, all that would be left to do is send Nash to NYK or TOR to get cap relief and a pick.

Low-risk, high-reward. Rookie contract. I'd take a flyer on him. He has certainly produced to this point.

We offload a on of money this offseason, we keep our own young core (I left out Lopez earlier, btw) AND we pick up a good pick.

Don't look a gift horse in the mouth....

Consider this:

Beasley-Dragic-Dudley-Lopez-Amundson-Clark-#1

If that's what we go into next season looking like ALONG WITH boatloads of cash for a couple FAs, we could be well on our way back....

Edit: BTW, I have not accounted for what we could possibly get for Nash in a follow up trade (more cap space and a protected #1).

I proposed Stoudemire, Richardson, and Barbosa, for O'Neal, Beasley, and Q. Richardson plus picks. Over $31 million would fall off our payroll this summer. There is doubts that Miami would take J Rich though.

I've forgoten all about Barbosa. I like that trade as well and MIA might take that because the combined value of JRich+Barbosa is probably positive, whereas JRich alone is probably negative.

Even if we kept Barbosa AND assuming a Nash trade:

Beasley-Barbosa-Dragic-Dudley-Lopez-Amundson-Clark-#1-#1 and money for FAs

Who wouldn't be down for that? As long as ALL our FA dollars went to 4s and 5s, we'd be set up right for the future for the first time, maybe, EVER....

.

And when Beasley's contract is up it will be under the new CBA.

Seems like Phoenix would be a better home for a guy who's still "growing up" than South Beach.

I'm afraid the Suns would take the money and run. This is the my biggest fear. If I recall correctly Richardson will be a large expiring contract next season so he will have more value then.

Unfortunately it all seems moot, because the Suns apparently have zero interest in Beasley, which I just don't understand. He'd seem to be a nice compliment for Clark and Lopez. It would be an interesting young front court that can score, play D and run.

If JC was still around NO WAY the Suns ever consider this.

Sarver?

If only the Suns could have traded Dumas for Rodman before everything fell apart. It was in the works. I have to admit the more I learn about Beasley the more I worry.

Well someone out there has to want Beasley. Who could the Suns flip him for?

I guess we'll have to wait till after the deadline before you finally give up this fantasy about Nash being traded. It's not going to happen!

Well, that's too bad. I love Nash and recognize he is the face of our franchise, but we really need to move forward. Moving Nash, to me, is strictly a business decision....

No it's not. How can you say that when KEEPING Nash is a business decision?

GUARANTEED the Suns as a franchise would lose money if they traded Nash away. And probably for crap if you want to send him to NYK.

Long run (me) vs. short run (you)

I'm ready for this team to actually make moves that lay a true foundation for a future as opposed to middling around as they always have....
