Michigan had no " quality wins ". That is the reason. If they whoop USC, I will eat those words.

Wisconsin for sure and Notre Dame on the road to a lesser degree

That's one of the problems with this system. Nobody wants to play anybody good out of conference and the Big 10 is somewhat down this year.

That game was actually @ Auburn. And there are more than a few who believe Florida got robbed in that game by the refs...

Your right 82, good call. But robbed no - every game has some questionable calls. If you wanna talk about being robbed go see an Oklahoma fan :D

Bottom line is they lost, regardless of the blown calls... Just wish a damm playoff system would be created as I am so tired of listening to, and being sucked into these deabtes about who "deserves" it more. WHo had a "tougher" non-conference schedule. Who had the better "style" points... The game is won and lost on the field... well, everywhere else but Div I-A College Football that is... :bang:

Wisconsin is a slight reach for quality win. Have you seen their schedule/results this year? I know it counts because of record, but.... ouch, The cheesers had 9 non quality wins.

You mean that commanding win over Buffalo the last week of the season didn't solidify Wisconsin's status? Lol, who the F has a clue? They're in the Top 6 though I guess.

or maybe their opening 3 games this year , which included, the Fighting Leathernecks of Western Illinois, whom they massacred 34-10 ( at home ).

Talk about tune ups. Bowling Green , San Diego State (14-0 @ home ) and Western Illinois.;)

Looking at it objectively, Michigan would beat Florida on a neutral field 3 out of 4 times IMHO.

any particular reason you chose 3 of 4 - why not 8 of 10? 2 of 3?

michigan didn't play the schedule to get in - that simple

I would take LSU over Notre Dame as far as quality - i'd also put arkansas above wisconsin as far as quality - then with that florida won at TN, which is a tough place to play

also note, that the auburn game came on the road 1 week after a tough matchup vs LSU - when did michigan go through such a 2 game stretch?

so FL only beat SC by 1, GA by 7 and at their rival FSU by 7

michigan didn't look like world beaters against penn st or ball state

they were able to prep for their big games (ND & OSU) by playing Central Michigan and Indiana respectively - 1 at the beginning of the year, 1 at the end

in the SEC you do not have that luxury

As a Gator Hater , I can't believe I am defending them, but...

That was the Steve Spurrier grudge game with SC, the " world's largest cocktail party" between Georgia and Florida in Jacksonville Gator Bowl, and their rivalry with FSU, which is like USC/UCLA or MIchigan / Ohio State where records don't matter.

Having watched both teams play many times this year, I just think physically Michigan is a better and more intimidating team.

Yeah, the schedule was rather weak. However, they were ranked #2 the last several weeks of the season. Why do they drop at the end of the year? Did they get worse while sitting at home last week? No, they were penalized for not playing 13 games.

Notre Dame doesn't belong in a BCS game this year IMHO, but LSU had 2 losses as well. Arkansas and Wisconsin is probably a toss up but we'll never know.

Twice:
@ Notre Dame then vs Wisconsin. And to a lesser degree @ Penn St then vs Iowa

in the SEC you do not have that luxury

Who in the SEC has an offense that keeps a coach up at night?

who in the big 10, aside from OSU has an offense?

it wasn't so much that michigan didn't play, it's that florida beat a legit top 10 team in the final week - if florida beat up on USF or some such team that week then they wouldn't of leaped

and WI v AR as a toss up is a joke - arkansas would destroy them

and the fact that you think @ PSU and home vs Iowa is a tough stretch this year (or anywhere near the level of playing LSU then going to Auburn) means that any further discussion is just a waste of time

regarding PSU/Iowa, I said "to a lesser degree". If you can say Tenn is a tough place to play in an off year for the Vols then I'm allowed to counter that Happy Valley is tough too. Iowa was consistently in the top 25 most of the year.

I just bring up the lack of offense argument because SEC fans always talk about how good the defense is in their conference without addressing the offensive issue.

Don't get me wrong, Florida is a very good team. I just think objectively that Michigan got robbed. I have no feelings for either team.

A joke? Who is ranked higher? Arkansas may very well win if they were to play, but to act like I'm crazy to even suggest it would be a close game seems rather odd. Arkansas had a relatively weak schedule too with only 2 quality wins this year (Tenn and Auburn).

Very much agreed. Arkansas has consistancy issues.

sure - i'd be willing to have some fun with it - i've just been 100% underwhelmed by WI this year - let's set a line and work out particulars as it gets closer to game day

Sounds like good fun. I'm not really sold on the Badgers either by the way. Based on their schedule/results it's hard to tell if they are really good or just mediocre.

hey - i've been wrong countless times as well - but lifes to short to not have fun with it - even if it leads to personal embarassement (like the time I lost a wager and had to take off my botton down to reveal a t-shirt that stated "stu is my bowling daddy" while singing and prancing in my office.................... the antithesis of good times)

Shouldn't the National Champion at least be their Conference Champion?

That's not how it works in college basketball, but everyone loves that format.

True but that format is also a 64 team tournament where the outcome isn't decided by voters. In the football BCS format only 2 teams are given the opportunity to play for a championsip.
