True but that format is also a 64 team tournament where the outcome isn't decided by voters. In the football BCS format only 2 teams are given the opportunity to play for a championsip.

Hey, maybe college football should have a playoff system! :D

exactly - not all NCAA basketball champs are their conference champs - the conference champs are guaranteed a spot in the tournament - but they have to beat the non-conference champs to get by

The BCS has turned college football into a made for TV commercial circus.

If anybody cares about the integrity of the game they should either come up with some sort of playoff system or just go back to the old system where conference champs played in designated bowls.

When ASU went to the Rose Bowl in 86 and 96 that was the top of the mountain. It didn't matter if they got voted # whatever in the polls. We went ot the freakin ROSE BOWL, it didn't get any better than that.

Now there's only one game that really matters.

Another thing I hate is how they keep adding another day to the bowl season. I loved sitting on the coach with 2 TVs going and watching 12 games in one day. My wife knew that I was not to be disturbed on that day. She would even bring me food and was willing to indulge me in pretty much any way for that one glorious day.

Now there's one game every night for a month. I have a life! I don't have time to watch a game every day for a MONTH!

How would it work though?? I think you'd top out at 8 teams?? So what.....major conference winners and 2 at large??

You'll still have complaining.

No matter what you do, you'll never make everyone happy... An 8 team, or ever a 4 team playoff would go a long way towards creating legitamacy the determining the NCAA Div 1-A Football Champion... I hope they get this done!!!

There is one big huge reason there will be no playoff system. The mega conferences have the big bux tied up and the sponsors want glamour not mystery.

Check out this site for Bowl payouts and it will tell you everything you need to know about no playoff system.

If Michigan and Ohio State squared off in MNC game they and the Big 10 (11) would have divided up $34,000,000.00 +. With a playoff system that money would be diminished.

32 Bowl games with corporate sponsors and payouts.

The whole bowl money grab is quite mysterious. But in theory, wouldn't a playoff create higher fan interest and larger TV viewership? Wouldn't that create a new money flow that would easily eclipse the current system? Right now there are about 25 or 30 bowl games that really nobody gives a crap about except fans of the schools playing in them.
