Good thing, he was terrible.

If he did not have Nash, he would have been out of the NBA a long time ago.

Yeah, his players had nothing to do with the fact they weren't doing so good as a team......

I'm not sure about his contract, but I would have made them fire me because I believe they would still have to pay me. Whereas if you resign, they're off the hook.

Knicks fans are delusional. Over @ Realgm I'd say 90% are praising this. And most are glad that it was Dantoni instead of Melo.

Now, I'm not a D'antoni fan. But Anthony is is destroying them. The Knicks were on the rise last year and D'antoni was running his system successfully, even without Nash. Ever since Anthony joined they've been garbage.

Anthony gets hurt this year and what happens? The Knicks go back to running and gunning and Lin comes out of nowhere to run D'antoni's system perfectly. The Knicks were winning and Lin was putting up ridiculous numbers with a bunch of bench and role players. Anthony comes back and the team crashes and burns.

This may or may not make suns fans happy depending on how you feel about d'antoni. To me this is more of an indictment of knicks management and continuous failure on their part.

a few weeks ago we were on here debating and some of us were saying that the suns this year were as good or better than NYK(in spite of Linsanity). Well...here you go. the knicks are still failing.....

Not necessarily, he and the team FO may well have negotiated a deal along the lines of him giving up 20% of his contract value in order to not be officially fired. They save a couple of million and his rep is damaged a bit less.

He didn't figure at the outset to be a good match for the Knicks as they have a long standing tradition of playing defense and everyone knows how little regard Mike has for that half of the game. I suppose they'll have to thank Carmello and Amare for reminding them that a modicum of defense is a good thing.

The rumor this morning was that Anthony had basically said, "Either trade me or fire D'Antoni."

The Knicks are the equivalent of a Made-In-China knock-off of the iPhone.

I'd love to see Sloan go to New York and acutally hold Stoudemire and Anthony accountable on the defensive end.

Why would any good coach go to NY? They are going to go there and then the superstars won't listen to them and the fans, media will tarnish his name. If I were a big NBA coach I'd pass all day on Dolan run Knicks.

Gambo is speculating that this might make Lin available, since Lin was DAntoni's guy and ran his system.

Knicks are not going to give up Lin after his performances and the money he generates.

I would agree with that. It just seems to me that Lin's success depends on DAntoni's system or something similar. Now that Mike is gone. . .???????????????

Will be interesting to see what happens.

Lin plays zero defense, that is probably a bigger concern for the new coach than the offense he generates. Every night the opposing guard goes off on the Knicks.

I would have liked to see what the Knicks could have done the rest of the season without Carmelo. It's sort of ironic that D'Antoni finds the PG that can run his offense with Lin, then Carmelo come from injury and stops the flow. Maybe the Knicks would have come back to earth regardless, but they looked like a very good team without Carmelo.

Denver has looked like a very good team without Carmelo too. There is a trend here.

Shocking considering how much New York gave up to Denver and the improvement of young players like Lawson, Afflalo, Farried and Galinari, Brewer, Chandler etc etc

Denver is one of the deepest teams in the league.

Denver also looked like a very good team with Carmelo.. Sorry but I don't see the trend here. Carmelo has had good amount of team sucess in his 10 years in the league considering that his best teammate so far was an old Billups for a year.

I don't think Carmelo ever had an allstar teammate on his roster other than Billups once in 2008 or 2009.

This... is BS. You cant have it both ways, say Denver is succeeding because they have so much talent and depth (when Gallo is all thats left from the trade) and then on the other hand say Melo had nothing to work with.

Denver has always had good depth and Melo has been paired with very solid complimentary players throughout his career.

Last year with Carmelo Denver was one of the worst defensive teams in the league, they ship him out and for the remainder of the season they were one of the best. Melo is not in the realm of other superstars, he takes just as much off the table as he puts onto it. He might be able to lift teams that surround him with complimentary players into mediocrity but he cant go beyond that. And if you pair him with a star (like Amare, Iverson ect) it doesnt matter because there is only one ball on offense and thats the only side of the court where Melo has an impact... and only if he has the ball.

And is there a better bet in the world right now than Knicks -5 tonight? Home game after firing their coach. Teams always come out motivated after this stuff. I think the Knicks are a good bet to miss the playoffs entirely, but tonight I bet they win handily.

I feel bad for Melo.. He came back just when the team stopped playing the trash of the NBA and they all turned into collective suck. It's not all his fault from what I saw on the court.

He's shooting 40%. It's kind of his fault that they suck.
