Another coach may be considered for the Arizona Cardinals' next defensive coordinator.
They’d like to interview Atlanta Falcons defensive coordinator Mike Nolan, according to ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.
I hope not.

Falcons had a horrible defense for the last several years.
Yup. Interesting choice. Remember how bad Bowles sucked in Philly according to many on this board.could be personnel though, Nolan is known for being a good defensive mind.
Why haven't the Cardinals shown any interest in Vic Fangio? Can anyone explain?
I hope not.

I like Mike Nolan. He was part of a great Baltimore Staff (with Rex Ryan and many others--including Mike Pettine, IIRC), he has head coaching experience, he's flexible (played with a 4-3 defense to suit his personnel in Atlanta even though he's a 3-4 guy).
He coached over Bowles with the Jets as defensive coordinator in 2000.
Ironically, this is how I picture Bowles' first (true) HC stint playing out.Good coordinator was probably over his head as a coach and sometimes guys like him are better off after they've had their chance as a HC and failed.
I'm cool with Nolan. The reason Atlanta was not a good defensive team was because of lack of talent, not due to lack of coaching. I think Dimitrioff (sp) is vastly overrated of a general manager. Although he acquired Julio Jones, he did so by giving away tons of picks, which could've been used to bolster that defense.
I think as long as Nolan has talent to work with he will do fine as a DC however as he has proven when the talent is lacking he is not able to improvise ala Bowles and get more out of less.
I dunno. It's hard to blame trading up for Julio Jones, who is one of the 4 or 5 best WRs in the NFL and the driver of that really good offense.
The bigger problem for their D is that they signed Ray Edwards to a big deal to hopefully be their rush end, and he flamed out spectularly.
MJ now reporting that BA&SK still want to appoint the new DC from within (Bettcher or Rapone) and hire LeBeau or Nolan as senior advisor.

Looking in-house James Bettcher
or Nick Rapone. LeBeau or Nolan would be a Senior Advisor. RT @arffdodff who is Arians looking at as new DC?
I think Matt Ryan throwing to Roddy White and Harry Douglas is sufficient enough for a good passing attack. Yes, Julio is an amazing talent, but, IMO, that trade really relinquished the possibility of building talent on the defensive side of the ball. Edwards and Kiwanuka (sp) didn't help, either.
For Nolan, coming to AZ would be like a kid going to a candy store when comparing the teams' defensive talents.
Wasn't he out all or most of 2013? And, look what happened to their offense that season - it stunk.Without Jones, Atlanta's offense looks a lot like ours. With Jones, they're an explosive group.
The big issue with LeBeau is his scheme will put our strongest players on Defendes - our D line - in a roll of lesser importance much like Horton's scheme did, since it is the same thing. I don't think they want to revert back to the Horton schemes, but rather take Bowles schemes and add to them. For that purpose Nolan is a better fit.
