Last week was a total disaster. It clearly illustrated what is wrong with this team; lack of leadership and discipline being the primary issues. It also clearly indicated why Whisenhunt was so desperate to have Leinart win the QB battle. Warner is at the stage where he is better in short bursts.
Whisenhunt had it right last season, but Leinart can’t play up to his abilities.
This week with Q & Wilson out, home field advantage does not seem likely to be enough of an edge. The Cards are now starting to play the tough part of their schedule and nothing indicates to me that they are in the Bills’ class. Once again turnovers and penalties likely kill them and they drop a winnable game. It looks like Bills 24 – Cards 20 to me.
Harry: I just tonight (Monday) read your post. I might have agreed with you up to a point but not on Warner.
Of course I have the advantage of hindsight but now that you have seen one of the best Cards domination of a good team in many years you must have some different thoughts. I surely hope you do not try to defend them as we clearly were not and I think not the team you describe. We are 3-2 and in first place. Just played the game of our life with no turnovers, no Quan, a balanced attack, caused 3 turnovers and had 9 different receivers catch a ball. Officially Kurt was not sacked once but took a tremendous hit in the face and continued on in the same skillful fashion he played the entire game. He carved up the Bills, who had the 4th best defense in the league, like a knife through hot butter. I would think this team when in the huddle and looking at kurt bleeding from the face knew a leader when they saw one. I would bet he called more than 50% of the plays with audibles at the line. We ran for over 100 yds and passed for around 250 yds. If Matt ever develops into a Kurt Warner we will be a team to deal with for years to come. His experience showed through all day long as he called the right plays and recognized defenses. The worst thing that could happen to this team at the moment would bring in Leinart. He has to be learning the meaning of leadership and playing when hurt by observing Warner. Even me at my age (older than dirt), could recognize leadership on the field when I saw it. Kurt may not make it through the season for what ever reason but he is still somewhat of the guy with the greatest show on earth. Leinart's day is coming. Just not yet.
