Essentially, what we will need to fill are the following roles...

RB (2nd string)
RB (3rd string)
RB (4th string) Penny might be able to get this spot
WR (3/4)
WR (4/5)
TE (starter)
TE (backup)
C (starter) Boehm might be able but that would require a backup to be added
RG (starter)
RG (backup)
DE (starter)
DE (starter) we have Mauro / Nkemdiche / Stinson but none have show starter play
OLB (starter) i expect we will use the franchise tag on Jones
OLB (backup)
ILB (starter)
SS (backup)
FS (backup)

and that is without discussing CB.

A ton of roles to fill which will prevent us from spending 10 mil on 3rd OT. I think the Cards are married to Boehm at C and Humphries at RT in 2017 just due to money and the amount of holes the team has to fill.

Keim is going to have to find 2 starters in the 2017 draft to help staunch some of that bleeding. I dunno if Penny can play special teams (I imagine if he could we would have promoted him instead of signing Williams), but I wonder if they retain Taylor at close to the veteran minimum.

Completely whiffing on draft picks like Shaq Riddick and Marqi Christian really hurts because it kills your special teams in years 1 and 2 and your medium-term depth in years 3 and 4. Those guys should be contributing right now, or planning to contribute soon. Now they're just wasted picks.

Kareem Martin is in his 3rd NFL season and playing 3.4% of the defensive snaps. He was a 3rd round pick!

No one hits on all these picks, but most NFL teams find a way to get SOMETHING out of these prospects. Would anyone be surprised if Brandon Williams was quietly released at the end of training camp last season? He's been a healthy scratch like the last 3 weeks.

Yeah. You hope to at least turn a mid round guy into a player like Justin Bethel more often than not. My issue with Keim's drafts are that it appears he is just going after athletes vs football players. At some point you have draft players who want to grind out a 5 year career over guys who are just athletic.

Keim will have a project next year and we are going to need players to make immediate impacts as well as big development jumps. Humphries, Boehm, Nkemdiche and Brandon Williams will all be counted on to do more than they have ever shown in this league. It will be interesting.

Nice thing is that this draft seems to match up well with what appears to be our needs.
