MMQB: Peter King posts all 32 teams' 2008 Cap Space

Washington is apparently $20.72 million over the projected cap. Arizona's 9th on King's list, with $30.27 available. The problem? Every team above them has 39 or more players already under contract going into next season. The Cardinals have only 34. Buffalo and San Francisco seem to be in the catbirds' seats heading into free agency, since they're both $30+ million under the cap and have 49 and 48 players, respectively, under contract.

The bad news is that 18 teams have $20 million or more in 2008 salary open right now. Look for a lot of end-of-season extensions to be forthcoming, because there aren't going to be a lot of players to go around.

I take it that, this figure includes Fitz's highly inflated number, which would be subject to a new deal. And, the $6m presently on the books for Gandy, that, again, would be subject to re-negotiation.

Fitzgerald I understand. He apparently has a really high cap number next season, and he's earned a new contract. But why extend/upgrade Anquan Boldin? Why does the 55th receiver in the NFL deserve a pay raise? He already has the 10th-highest cap number on the team.

I hate **** like this. Look how much we are under the cap and we can not spend like a normal team. It just does not make any sense from a football standpoint and severely limits our depth.

They are planning to use most of the room to keep our existing players under contract.

There isn't going to be a ton of guy in FA anyways because the cap goes up again. This is the point many of us made this offseason when told the FO was frontloading contracts to have more caproom for next year in free agency, we said "who are they going to sign there won't be much out there?"

They frontloaded contracts last year and restructured some, and they'll probably do the same this year, use your available cap with a just a few key signings here and there.

How many guys are under contract is misleading. How many of those free agents will be RFA or EFA's. Also how many of the guys under contract are just PS players that got 2 year contracts.

Also those cap figures do not include escalators, incentives or roster bonuses becuase they havent been earned yet so they cant be counted yet.

For example Fitz big incentive is not included yet and we actually only have about 22 mill.

But it is a great example to show just how much money will be in the free agent market and how many players will be extended before MArch 1st.
