Kindof lends credibility to the whole "locker room cancer" rumors that went around after Miggy left here. I didn't want to believe it at the time because I thought he was a good dude, but looks like he's kindof a douche.

Speaking of Bauer - it is interesting to realize that the net effect of the Bauer trade was getting Robbie Ray...

This is completely off the top of my head, but it seems like a lot of the moves most of us gnashed our teeth over ended up working out pretty well long term.

That Upton trade looks like a clear home-run for Towers. Even with the main piece, Prado, failing to pan out.

How do you account for the years of mediocrity in between now and say, 10 years ago?

It seems to just be ignored in these equations. It doesn't take long for the evaluation of these chains of trades begin to become asinine.

In no way have we received 13.7 WAR back in the Justin Upton trade.

Dbacks had four seasons since the Upton trade. And they wouldn't have been able to resign him, so at best lost two seasons with him.

Not sure what your point is about 10 years ago.

I was thinking 2007. Had forgotten about our LDS blip in 2011.

Speculative at best here.

In those two years, the DBacks lost the trade by 3.4 WAR (2013) and 1.7 WAR (2014).

And this year?

Which is what I am concerned about.

Like I said, accounting for all the mediocrity the organization has had, you can't say we've "won" anything. It's Trumpian logic IMO to attempt to.

I'm sure you would agree that trades are often made with a longer-term perspective in mind, no? Just because you make a trade, doesn't mean you expect immediate payoff. The facts are that many of the players contributing to the success we see today, were brought into the organization over the past 4 years or so, via deals, trades and drafting while Towers and Stewart were at the helm...

Goldy was drafted by Byrnes.
Grienke was signed by LaRussa (widely known Stewart was not involved).
The signing of good framing C Iannetta and Mathis (signed by Hazen) vs horrible framing of Castillo (signed by Stewart) has really made team ERA improve.
Bradley to BP was done under Hazen/Lovullo.
Walker signed by Hazen.

Ray (2.1 WAR) and Lamb (2.2 WAR) are really the players contributing most that would fit under your description IMO.

So you are discounting Drury and Ahmed. Got it

Goldy was resigned to a great extension by....

You and 82 carried the water for Towers for a long time through a ton of stupid moves. I don't remember how you two felt about Stewart's short tenure.

You can believe what you want to believe, but I think it's foolish, the baseball community thinks it's foolish, and the results of their tenures speak for themselves.

I think you two are great fans, just not great GMs.
