Which is probably even more of a concern. Thrilled it wasn't more serious but you could tell the knee took a little speed away from the Jukester.

Gotta believe Lott will be instructed to have Juke add at least 5 more pounds of muscle this offseason.

I'm pumped about his potential in year 2. He'll be stronger down the stretch next year. This year was the longest season he ever had and playing with the big boys to boot and he did extremely well. He did fade down the stretch but I really think BA spared him further injury by limiting his touches. Whis wouldn't have even played him as a rook, and I love the fact that BA got everything out if him he could without risking his health.

Lil Bit is already in there trying to put on weight, getting stronger, and rehabbing the leg. He is all about 2014 and the opportunities coming his way. There is no offseason for Ellington, homie gets it in.

I also like how Ellington can line up with the receivers and run routes. Arians can have him go in motion and line up leaving the back field empty because we don't have to start out with the back field empty. Kind of invites the blitzes we can't handle. That type of "line him up where ever" flexibility can help when we are trying to confuse defenses, especially on designer plays like when PP comes in on offense. Ellington can be that type of back in Arians no huddle, I don't know if Mendy really runs receiver routes.

Interesting stuff. I think that 30 touches a game from Ellington is highly aspirational (and Arians not mentioning Ryan Williams and then Darren Urban noting that should be pretty interesting to his staunchest defenders on this board).

I checked the advanced metrics from FootballOutsiders on Ellington, and he was a Top 10 receiving back based on DVOA. More importantly, he was a top 5 running back on a per-play basis as a runner (this was shocking to me).

The issue with using Ellington as an every-down back is his success rate (whether he's consistently able to keep the offense ahead of the chains)--which was 30th in the NFL. He was just ahead of Chris Johnson in this metric.

I was one of his "defenders" for awhile, but dude just hasn't taken care of business. It looks like he has a remote shot now of making roster since he probably wouldn't be used on special teams.

He's fitting into the roster deadweight category now.

I believe he is still on the roster because Keim values him more than Arians and no one else has beat him out for the 4th RB spot yet. I expect we will add a RB in the draft (late or UDFA) and then Williams will have to flash to keep his roster spot or he will be a late training camp cut. Consider RBs take a beating in the pre season and Arians will want to limit Ellington's touches before the season. Williams will eat up hits if nothiing else.

No, what we need is a RB who is between Ellington and Taylor in terms of athleticism/size who can do a little of what Ellington does but also a little of what Taylor/Dwyer (never thought I would be saying those two were comperable) does. Essentially, if Ellington gets hurt, we want someone who can create some explosive plays but is not a huge financial investment.

Because he already got injured on a limited number of carries last year? I like Ellington a lot, but his size just doesn't seem to lend itself to him being a workhorse RB. (Esp. with his talent at receiver)

Splitting Ellington out wide in sets to catch passes in space is a great way to do this. Running Ellington out of spread formations vs sub defensive packages gets him rushing touches vs less huge defenders. The screen game is very effective in getting a smaller running back touches in space. You still want to get Ellington traditional touches in base sets because he is such a gamebreaker, but if you want to increase his workload, you want to do so using more unconventional ways.
