Have you ever watched a movie and then you see a stunt that makes you roll your eyes at the shear improbability and have the whole movie ruined???

I can think of a few off the top of my head....

Gone in 60 Seconds (the new one) where Nicolas Cage's character goes like 90 MPH and jumps his mustang on he back of a truck over about 15 cars and lands safely with the car still running? Probably one of the dumest scenes ever thought of. I bottomed out my car going about 35 and not only did it bend my oil pan, but it tweakd the camshaft...and I wasn't even flying 30 feet up in the air

Then, another Cage movie, Face off. The entire first scene with the plane is completely bogus. First off the runway would have to be like 30 miles long for this scene to even be remotely realistic. The pilot of the LearJet gives the plane full throttle and not only does a HumVee catch up to it, but a helicopter does.

....last but not least, the scene in Mission Impossible 2 where Tom Cruise and the bad guy face off on their motorcycles, go really fast towards each other and jump off of them and hit each other chest to chest and then fall to the ground fighting....WTF? Lets say they were each going 40 MPH, the impact between them would have been the force of 80 MPH and would have crushed their chests.....

Dumb movies

Even though I love the movie "Speed" the part where Keanu and Sandra are trying to get off the bus by going out through the floor. I just dont see how they could BOTH get on that thing, and still manage to not lose control of it.

Good movie though :)

Knight Rider - In one episode, Michael Knight must prove he belongs on a racetrack full of daredevils. So he must jump KITT ramp to ramp over some cars/barrels. You see the car take off from the first ramp...about halfway the nose really starts to drop and you can just tell the back end is going to go forward and the car is going to land upside down or slam into the ramp...then suddenly the camera shot cuts away to a different angle with the car landing smoothly.

Not really stunts, but still improbable:

Predator - The bomb that the predator sets off (nuke/atomic) produces a small mushroom cloud if I remember correctly. We're supposed to believe Arnold outran that. :D

Not really a stunt, but have you seen the preview for the last episode of Friends? In it, Ross finds out Rachel is already at the airport and leaving. He shouts out that he's going after her, to catch her and tell her how he feels. Then they cut to a scene with Rachel getting let through the boarding door at the gate...the door is closed behind her...just as Ross (and maybe Chandler or Joey) come running around the corner trying to catch her before her flight. Ok - Friends is in NY, right? I would hazard a guess that the airports there have more security than Sky Harbor...and at Sky Harbor - only TICKETED PASSENGERS are allowed through security and up to the actual boarding gates. Unless it's explained on the show...there's no way someone just runs through the airport all the way to the boarding area. Not these days.

Kill Bill Vol. 2

#*# SPOILER #*#

The scene where Uma Thurman is buried alive. First of all she was panicking, so here air supply would be exhausted in less than 15 minutes, and it seemed like she was in there longer that. Not to mention that she was buried six feet deep, and the coffin made of wood (probably pine) would've collapsed crushing her under tons of dirt.

Mission Impossible when the helicopter explodes and Tom Cruise goes flying and lands on the train unscathed. Weak.

I really like The Bourne Identity, but the scene at the end where Matt Damon falls down the stairwell, shoots the guy in mid-air and then lands on top of the dead body is kind of unrealistic.

I think it's cheesy in any movie where a car conveniently finds a ramp to make a jump, go up on 2 wheels, etc...

Also, I hate the Matrix efects that every movie seems to have now, the slow motion, acrobatic fighting scenes...

I roll my eyes when there is a shootout. You have a seasoned soldier shotting at someone who is running in a straight line. That person has a gun & shoots over thier shoulder while they are running & kills the soldier bad guy.

Yeah right

Ah, but that's the whole point...Quentin Tarantino wasn't going for probability or reality...he was purposefully going for something that shouldn't be possible. That's the beauty of it.

"Ohhh the humanity!"

This isn't really a stunt, but it's from one from "Die Another Day". In the beginning when the girl shoots a propane tank on the side of the balloon, AND IT GOES UP LIKE THE HINDENBURG!

Hello? That's hot air in the balloon, NOT FREAKIN HYDROGEN!

I can believe everything else in a Bond movie, flying cars, boats that drive down a road until they hit water again, and other stuff like that. I mean it's James Bond, he just has that kind of stuff.

But not that...I was so pissed I didn't finish watching it, and haven't even tried to watch it again since...

I guess so, but I'm a stooge for realism in movies, even in Sci-Fi/Horror... :)

I know these aren't technically stunts, but my personal pet peeve usually comes from weapons. When somebody with a 30 round clip fires at full auto for over five seconds I usually groan. Also, when somebody continuously pumps a shotgun (usually for emphasis) without firing it. Come on!

Talking about impossible stunts look at VH13 in the Van Helsing thread, it looks even more rediculous when they shoot a photo of it.

In Phone Booth he cocked the rifle 4 times before he shot

You must have HATED the Kill Bill movies, then, as they were certainly NOT meant to be realistic. I usually love realism, but when something's deliberately not trying to be real (the 2 Evil Deads, Army of Darkness, Kill Bill, Airplane, etc), then I can get into that as well.

Actually I like both of them, and I like every movie you mentioned.

What?
The whole crouching tiger movie was just pathetic.

THE #1 worst movie for stunts is "Driven". These idiots didn't do a minutes research on Indy cars. The cars wreck and go up in huge fireballs. Hellooooo, dorks, the cars run on alcohol and there is no visible flame from alcohol. Geez, It's brutal.

BTW- Of course I own it.

If you have ever shot a Desert Eagle 50 cal. handgun you know the sort of kick that it has and know how unrealistic it would be to jump from around a corner flying through the air and getting off 5 shots with minimal effort

I'd have to say that the most improbable movie stunt I've ever seen (although I'm not sure I should call it a stunt per se) is in the movie Chain Reaction where Keanu Reeve's character outruns a giant explosion on his motorcycle.

Then again most Hollywood action movies refuse to follow the laws of physics.
