I submit to you Social Distortion for consideration in the most underrated bands catagory.

Social D rocks. The new album is pretty good, although looking at the band in the inside cover of the CD, it's my belief that Mike Ness and the boys should never, ever be allowed to be photographed again. They don't look so good anymore.

That's one of me all time favorite bands. They're a huge influence on my playing.

Wow I was literally just going to post OLP and I figured I oughta read all the posts before I post it, and there you have it.

First song I recall from them was Superman's Dead.

Their singer has such an interesting voice. I like them a lot but I haven't heard that many of their songs.

At the risk of public stoning I'll throw in a "guilty pleasure" band, one I wish I didn't like but still do, Cinderella.

Don't know why the lyrics are pretty cheesy, the whole hair band thing was over the top, but them and Ratt I've always liked.

I first got into OLP back when their first hit single "Starseed" was released over 10-years ago..... I just fell in love with that song and then once I heard the song "Naveed" I just sensed something special about them....

I purchased "Clumsy" right away mainly because of "Supermans Dead" and of course it was one of those major risks due to the fact that I've been burned on buying a c.d. based on just 1 song, but in this case I just began to listen to that album nonstop....

I didnt like their follow-up as much as "Clumsy", however, "One Man Army" rocked.....

Have any of you heard of Sloan? They're another vastly underrated band from Canada that I know you'd all appreciate it.....

Assface, if you're interested in checking-out OLP.."Naveed" and "Clumsy" would be the best 2 c.d.s to start.... I just havent gotten into their albums since for whatever reason though....

For your considerations I'd like to submit:

1) The already mentioned: They Might Be Giants. Musical genius that quietly paved the way for so many modern musical movements (and apparently alliteration).

2) Soul Coughing.

3) Mike Doughty (former lead singer of Soul Coughing)

Holy cow, Cinderella! If I had a dollar for everytime I got drunk and blared "Nobody's Fool" in high school and college ... good times, good times!

You could have said, "and appearently announced alliteration's ascent and arrival about accoustics."

If we're going for Under rated AND longevity, I have to go with Dream Theater. They are are on thier 20 yr. anniversary tour with a 4 hour finale at Radio City Music Hall in NY. And how many people have actually heard of them yet they've been around for 20 yrs. They are musicians musicians.
