since there has been the recent postings on Elway (which I might add I really enjoyed), I would like to throw a name out there which often gets overlooked.

Warren Moon

accurate and threw one of the most prettiest passes of all-time. Reminds me a lot of Warner in a lot of aspects but had more arm strength

I would like to hear what you guys think about QBs which sometimes get overlooked and see what names come to mind

I already pointed to Moon as one of the most underrated of all time. Combine his skin color and his off the field problems and you've got a QB that won't be held in high esteem.

If he was white, played for the Patriots, Cowboys or 49ers and threw for 50,000 yards, had 300 TD's and went to 8 consecutive pro-bowls(9 total) he'd be talked about the same way Marino is.

Speaking of Moon's problems, does anyone know the "real" story? This is what I found when I did a quick search:

Mrs. Moon insisted she is not a battered woman and that she has not been coerced or intimidated by her husband. Her motion stated that the intent of the new law is to protect women who cannot protect themselves, and that does not apply to her.

I didn't follow the situation that closely when it happened but the official statement seems to contradict the idea that he was continually abusing her if at all.

Ken Stabler, gets my vote. Isn't Moon a HOF? I thought he was, if he is then he isn't under rated. If he isn't then he would be right up there IMO.

I would say Danny White could be mentioned. If not for a fingernail tackle "The Catch" may not even be remembered.

Had a great career with Dallas, just didn't get to the big game.

Bert Jones

This guy's career was cut short and filled with injuries due to a poor Baltimore Colts offensive line. When he did play, the Colts won their division. We he was injured they finished last.

From wiki:

Bert Jones possessed skills that very few QBs can claim. He called all his own plays and was a true field general unlike most QBs of today. He also possessed one of the strongest arms ever to play in the NFL. Many observers believe that only John Elway, Brett Favre and Doug Williams have had similar arm strength. Bert was reportedly able to throw the ball nearly 100 yards in the air in his prime. The widely respected scout Ernie Accorsi is quoted as saying that if Bert Jones had played under different circumstances, he probably would have been the greatest player ever. John Riggins has been quoted as saying Bert was the toughest competitor he has ever witnessed. On the eve of Super Bowl XLII New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick, in discussing his choices for the greatest quarterbacks of all time, described Jones as the best "pure passer" he ever saw.

Fran Tarkington, Little guy could scramble forever in order to find somebody to throw to. Piled up huge yards and big wins back in the day.

The older guys from the 50's and 60's never got the press that started to come with the Super Bowl. That changed everything.

Judging by the recent polls, I'm going to go with Elway. Again, I really don't like the man nor the team, but watching him here in Denver week after week really gave me an appreciation for the way he led that team to victory after victory...even when otherwise overmatched.

It's all relative, but yeah, I think so. I think Elway was the best to ever play the position. Then you've got guys like SWD who thinks there are 20 better. And most people fall somewhere in between. So, by that measurement, I think he's underrated.

If you want a vote from me that's not a HoFer, I'd go with Jim McMahon. People look at that team with the 4-6 defense and Walter Payton and think McMahon was a loud-mouth Trent Dilfer. He wasn't. He was a damned good QB and knew how to lead a team.

Even more than the 4-6 and Payton, McMahon was himself the biggest influence toward any degree of underatedness... The man was a pure clown and showman.
That said, he was extremely talented and a pretty damm good leader as well...

Modern era consideration: Chad Pennington

Not any where near a HoF candidate or anything like that, just wanted to say he's an under appreciated QB. I think it was Molker who helped me see the light last year.
