Rise from the Ashes III
Speaking of Bert Jones, another guy with bad knees that "could have been" was Steve Bartkowski.
Modern era consideration: Chad Pennington
Not any where near a HoF candidate or anything like that, just wanted to say he's an under appreciated QB. I think it was Molker who helped me see the light last year.
I don't think they missed him at all until Favre tore his biceps tendon. He was completing 70.6% of his passes and had 20 TD's and the Jets had just beaten the undefeated Titans and they were alone in first place in the AFC East going into week 13.When hes healthy he has been a top 6 or 7 QB. Jets didn't now wha they had until he was gone.

Pennington isn't underrated in my opinion because everyone knows exactly what he is. An injury prone game manager. Even after last year, Miami is preparing to phase him out after 2010. He will rarely hurt your team but he doesn't win games either. Playing it safe will look great for completion % and QB rating but when the playoffs roll around...
Darryl Lamonica (The Mad Bomber), Joe Furguson, Bob Griese, Bert Jones, Len Dawson, Steve Bartkowski.
Pastorini, Oilers
In regards to a team?
Steve Young was better than Joe Montana
Neil Lomax. To put up a 47-52-2 record as a starter for the pre-UPS Cardinals makes him one of the greatest QBs of all time.
Judging by the recent polls, I'm going to go with Elway. Again, I really don't like the man nor the team, but watching him here in Denver week after week really gave me an appreciation for the way he led that team to victory after victory...even when otherwise overmatched.
JMHO
I don't believe Elway is underated at all. Do you think the Broncos really do much of anything at the end of his career if it wasn't for TD? Very debatable. Can a Hall of Famer really be underated??
Those two games sort of sum up my feelings on which one was great and which one's were good.how about as a chief and past his prime...if winning counts
Montana was injured for part of the 1993 season, but still led the Chiefs in two come-from-behind wins in the 1993 playoffs and reached the AFC Championship Game, where Kansas City lost to the Buffalo Bills. Including their two playoff victories that year, the 1993 Chiefs won 13 games, tying the franchise record for wins in a season. Montana was also selected to his final Pro Bowl at the end of the 1993 season.
Montana returned healthy to the Chiefs in 1994, starting all but two games. His highlights included a classic duel with John Elway (which Montana won 31-28) on Monday Night Football, and a memorable game in week 2 when Montana played against his old team, the 49ers and Steve Young. In a much-anticipated match-up, Montana and the Chiefs prevailed and defeated the 49ers 24–17. Montana led his team to a final playoff appearance in 1994.
