I'm sure if they knew he would have taken it personally they wouldn't have done it. The fact he has to retire because of it now makes them look even worse. I actually read the story about what happened though and they weren't making fun of his illness they were making fun of the fact that he was finishing last in suicides. It just seems like they were trying to pump him up. Byron Scott had no problem with it.

well, if i'm taking this all outta context, okay then. but, by the same token, these guys gotta know who they're dealing with . . . 'zo has ALWAYS been a tempermental/emotional guy. wasn't bright either way. maybe i wouldn't take out their legs. and, as much as i love byron (a player favorite of mine for a long time - back to ASU days), i think he can be an idiot, so his opinion means little to me.

Marc Stein confirmed my suspicions regarding Alonzo Mourning's contract. The contract was fully guaranteed for four years at $22 million total. Apparently it was the only way he would sign a deal. Rod Thorn looked like a genius a couple of years ago, but after Chris Childs, Rodney Rogers, Mutombo, and now Alonzo Mourning he's looking more like Scott Layden.

Not only that, but Stein's article says it is unlikely insurance will pick up the remainder like some articles have stated.

Since his Kidney ailment was a known problem well before the contract was signed, the Nets will most likely have to actually pay the full 22 million.

That is of course unless Zo unguarantees an amount of the contract.

Stein said if he doesnt, the nets would have paid him 1.8 million dollars per game.

Anyone who thinks that Jason Kidd couldn't have made any difference in this is completely nuts. He is SUPPOSED to be a leader, a guy that stops these kind of confrontations from happening, let alone being leaked into the media. He messed up by NOT taking a stand.

What would you say then, that it was because of Jason Kidd's bad karma?

What the heck are you talking about? The fighting and disrespect among teammates is what Kidd should have been able to address. Obviously he can't help Mourning with his kidney directly, but that has nothing to do with what I'm saying.

If I "bash" someone for failing in his responsibility to provide a supportive environment for a sick teammate, I utterly fail to see how that is disrespectful of the sick teammate.

Remember. This is the same guy that got all bent out of shape over Suns fans making fun of TJ "whadda' dome" Kidd. :)

I think he made some comment about BIM committing incest or something like that. I'm waiting to hear what his next insult involving indecent sexual acts will be like.

Shouldn't Byron Scott be just as responsible for the teams actions as much as kid if not more? Lets bash Byron Scott.

Oh, who actually reads all these posts anyway.

Me, I have no life. Obviously I don't reply to every post like some people, but I read all of them.

Oh come on, Chap!

We all know that sometimes the media can make mountains out of mole hills with this kind of stuff. Maybe they got in one heated argument during a practice, so what? If you think it hasn't happened on the Suns before, then you're wrong. In fact, I'd be willing to bet that somebody has yelled at somebody else during a practice in Stephon Marbury's 2 and a half year tenure with the Suns. Should we get rid of him? No, of course not. Confrontations happen, if anything it's a positive thing because it shows that guys are getting as heated in practices as they do in games. If you're going to blame Kidd for everything bad that happens, you should give him credit for everything that goes well. If you do that, I'm pretty sure his positives would far outweigh the negatives.

And how exactly could he have stopped this confrontation from being leaked into the media?

DOnt get me wrong, I agree, but bringing it up in THIS THREAD, which is dedicated more to bereaving the fact that Alonzo has fallen, is more like finding excuses to take pot shots at the guy.

The Nets may not have ins. on Mourning, but If Mourning retires I think that would relieve the team of his contract obligations.

That's not it at all. We were talking about the behavior of the Nets prior to this announcement. My post was speaking towards that fact. That's all. Not an excuse to bash the guy.

I wasn't aware that message board threads could bear such exclusive dedications.

Word is that is wrong. The Nets get no cap relief whatsoever for the full duration of Mourning's contract. Not only that, they could not insure Mournings contract because of the preexisting condition.

The Nets are screwed big time. They lose the money that they paid to get rid of Mutombo. They lose the money they are required to pay to Mourning. They lose the cap room that Mourning cost them. They have Jason Kidd locked up long term, so they can't even get rid of Joumana.

Dude, Im not making a big deal out of this or anything. I'm not offended or anything. I just find it amusing that in a thread, dedicated initially to covering the sad fact that Zo is done, Suns fans found a way to get a couple jabs in at Jason Kidd.

I did. I just didnt get it. You were saying that you guys had talked on this topic before this ammouncement, and this thread is titles Alzons career is over, apparently started after the word was given, So I kind of didnt get it.

Either way, again, I dont disagree with the notion that Jason Kidd is a poor leader. I simply find it amusing that it needs to be repeated here ad nauseum, as if it was news worthy. Its not, and so when it repeatedly gets brought to the forefront of any thread that J Kidd might have less than say 4 or 5 degree of seperation from, it makes me laugh. I believe contributes nothing, and I made my opinion felt on the matter. Thats all.

You're wrong again, and I can see you don't get it. But that's ok. Early in the thread it was mentioned that because of Alonzo's retirement, there might be some tension because of what happened a few weeks ago with the other guys. I simply put forth that the bad stuff we're talking about wouldn't have been brought up had Kidd been a leader and did what he should have. That's all. I especially don't like the inference that I brought it up ONLY because I want to bash Jason Kidd. And that's just not the case.

Martin's dig on Mourning about his kidney condition seems even more offensive (if that's possible) now that Zo needs a transplant.

"Yeah, I apologized to him. In the heat of the moment you know you say things that you wish you hadn't," Martin told reporters. "No matter if it's basketball or at work, no matter what you're doing you say things you wish you could take back. I apologized to him right afterward. But it still don't take it back that I said it. But I apologized to him; he accepted my apologies."

I applaud Jason Kidd for this comment. It shows that he knows he messed up, but he's addressing the situation now. Wow, what a leader he is, right!??

I don't know how he does it, but the hold he has over Kenyon Martin is just amazing. What do you think he uses, the force? I saw Obie Wan Kinobe use the same trick on a Storm Trooper in Star Wars: A new Hope.

Whatever it is, you gotta give it to JKidd on this one. Good job!
