Casablanca? You didn't like Casablanca? :shun:
Eh. That was my impression. I retract that I didn't like it. I just didn't understand why it was considered one of the best movies of all time. There's nothing special about it.

edit: I don't have to retract anything. I never said I didn't like it. I said I was unmoved. I stand by that.

I guess when I watch older movies, I try to understand what the movie meant when it came out. Some films arent great by today's standards, but mostly because films today have stolen everything from the true innovative films of yesteryear.

Yeah, well I'm not as high-class as you, so to me it was...eh. ;)

Seriously, though...I've just never been much of a textbook movie critic. Either I like it or I don't. I'm a pretty simple woman, and I'm perfectly fine with that.

I also wanted to rip my eyes & ears out by the end of The Thin Red Line, as well as punch myself in the face for having wasted 3 hours of my life on that, and most people on here liked it...so take my disapproval with a grain of salt. ;)

Thank you, THANK YOU, THANK YOU. Thin Red Line was an abysmal hodgepodge of monkey puke. I hated it!!!

On topic.... Blade Runner was a fantastic movie.... and I liked the theatrical version every bit as much as the "director's cut."

OK, I am going to watch this for the first time.

Which version should I watch? I am guessing Theatrical version the first time around.

Watch the theatrical version.

You'll either get it, or you won't (as the polarized comments in the thread should indicate.)

I thought it was great, so that'll probably mean you'll hate it. But at least you'll get it off your list.

A third version will be released soon. I am partial to the theatrical version as well, but both are great.

"Blade Runner" returns, definitively
Thu Jul 26, 2007 8:13 AM EDT

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Director Ridley Scott is working on a "definitive" new version of his science-fiction classic "Blade Runner."

"Blade Runner: The Final Cut" will get a brief theatrical run in Los Angeles and New York, beginning October 5, before its December 18 DVD release through Warner Home Video.

Scott went back into postproduction to complete the new version of the film, which has been restored and remastered from original elements and contains never-before-seen and extended scenes. The film also includes new and improved special effects, director and filmmaker commentary and an all-new Dolby Digital audio track. Three DVD editions are coming to stores, in two-, four- and five-disc configurations.

Re-marketing for the win!

Special Editions, Director's Cuts, and "never-before-seen and extended scenes" really aren't a selling point for me anymore.

"Blade Runner" without narrative, and the stupidity of the Director's Cut of "Conan The Barbarian" killed it for me.

FIVE disc configurations? What?

There will be 5 discs in Bluray HDDVD coming out this year as well. Here's what you will see

Amazon said:
Disc One
RIDLEY SCOTT'S ALL-NEW "FINAL CUT" VERSION OF THE FILM
Restored and remastered with added & extended scenes, added lines, new and cleaner special effects and all new 5.1 Dolby Digital Audio. Also includes:

Commentary by Ridley Scott
Commentary by executive producer/co-screenwriter Hampton Fancher and co-screenwriter David Peoples; producer Michael Deely and production executive Katherine Haber
Commentary by visual futurist Syd Mead; production designer Lawrence G. Paull, art director David L. Snyder and special photographic effects supervisors Douglas Trumbull, Richard Yuricich and David Dryer
Disc Two
DOCUMENTARY DANGEROUS DAYS: MAKING BLADE RUNNER
A feature-length authoritative documentary revealing all the elements that shaped this hugely influential cinema landmark. Cast, crew, critics and colleagues give a behind-the-scenes, in-depth look at the film -- from its literary roots and inception through casting, production, visuals and special effects to its controversial legacy and place in Hollywood history.

Disc Three
1982 THEATRICAL VERSION
This is the version that introduced U.S. movie-going audiences to a revolutionary film with a new and excitingly provocative vision of the near-future. It contains Deckard/Harrison Ford's character narration and has Deckard and Rachel's (Sean Young) "happy ending" escape scene.

1982 INTERNATIONAL VERSION
Also used on U.S. home video, laserdisc and cable releases up to 1992. This version is not rated, and contains some extended action scenes in contrast to the Theatrical Version.

1992 DIRECTOR'S CUT
The Director's Cut omits Deckard's voiceover narration and removes the "happy ending" finale. It adds the famously-controversial "unicorn" sequence, a vision that Deckard has which suggests that he, too, may be a replicant.

Disc Four
BONUS DISC - "Enhancement Archive": 90 minutes of deleted footage and rare or never-before-seen items in featurettes and galleries that cover the film's amazing history, production teams, special effects, impact on society, promotional trailers, TV spots, and much more.

Featurette "The Electric Dreamer: Remembering Philip K. Dick"
Featurette "Sacrificial Sheep: The Novel vs. The Film"
Philip K. Dick: The Blade Runner Interviews (audio)
Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep Cover Gallery (images)
The Art of Blade Runner (image galleries)
Featurette "Signs of the Times: Graphic Design"
Featurette "Fashion Forward: Wardrobe & Styling"
Screen Tests: Rachel & Pris
Featurette "The Light That Burns: Remembering Jordan Cronenweth"
Unit photography gallery
Deleted and alternate scenes
1982 promotional featurettes
Trailers and TV spots
Featurette "Promoting Dystopia: Rendering the Poster Art"
Marketing and merchandise gallery (images)
Featurette "Deck-A-Rep: The True Nature of Rick Deckard"
Featurette "--Nexus Generation: Fans & Filmmakers"
Disc Five
WORKPRINT VERSION
This rare version of the film is considered by some to be the most radically different of all the Blade Runner cuts. It includes an altered opening scene, no Deckard narration until the final scenes, no "unicorn" sequence, no Deckard/Rachel "happy ending," altered lines between Batty (Rutger Hauer) and his creator Tyrell (Joe Turkell), alternate music and much more. Also includes:

Commentary by Paul M. Sammon, author of Future Noir: The Making of Blade Runner
Featurette "All Our Variant Futures: From Workprint to Final Cut"

If you can sit through all of those things, more power to you.

Well, what's amazing about this, is the price. It will be a 5 HDDVD or 5 Bluray discs, and the MSRP is only $29.99. There are single disc HDDVD/Bluray/DVD movies that have the same MSRP. I truly hope a lot of other companies follow suit.

Blade Runner - One of the best movies, ever. (go figure I just love "Big Trouble in Little China" too)

But, the wife just doesn't get it!

(I do like the original voice-over version)

Just remember what ol' Jack Burton does when the earth quakes, the poison arrows fall from the sky, and the pillars of Heaven shake. Yeah, Jack Burton just looks that big old storm right in the eye and says, "Give me your best shot. I can take it."

One, funny-ass movie..... It was a staple at the firehouse.
