Lomax to Green 84
Hall of Famer
Here is my humble attempt at who I see the top 10 picks going and why as of April 14th:
1. Cincinatti-Carson Palmer-The injury to Newman and the uncertainty with Rogers makes Palmer a virtual lock to go #1.
2. Detroit-Andre Johnson-Matt Millen will be honked off at Charlie Rogers even if he ends up innocent and takes the guy he really wanted all along and now he has an excuse. Johnson is the big, physical Terrell Owens guy Millen and Mooch want.
3. Houston-Terrell Suggs-Despite the worry about his workout and despite the obvious need on the offensive side of the ball the Texans opt for Suggs. The reason-Dom Capers loves guys who can get to the passer and he envisions Suggs eventually being a more destructive version of Kevin Greene who he had at Carolina during their hey day in the mid 90's.
4. Chicago-DeWayne Robertson-The Bears really wanted Suggs but will settle for Robertson. Robertson gives the Bears a big, physical space eater who can keep blockers of their franchise guy Brian Urlacher. The Bears see themselves getting back to their 2001 form and see Robertson as the missing piece to the puzzle.
5. Dallas-Marcus Trufant-Worries about Newman's injury scare away the Cowboys, but their dire need for help in the secondary leads to the drafting of Trufant who Parcells actually thinks is a better fit than Newman.
6. Arizona-Byron Leftwich-The Cards look at their draft board and see Leftwich sitting at the top. They are tempted to take Jimmy Kennedy but opt for the value of Leftwich.
7. Minnesota-Jimmy Kennedy-The Vikes get their guy they wanted all along. Kennedy gives them the huge space eater they have been craving for years.
8. Jacksonville-Charlie Rogers-The drug issue with Rogers scares off the top 7 teams but the Jags see the opportunity to get a franchise guy and don't let him slide any farther.
9. Carolina-Terrence Newman-The Panthers hope that the injury to Newman is just temporary and as with Rogers don't want to let a franchise shut down corner slide any farther.
10. Baltimore-Kyle Boller-Enamored by his freakish workouts, Brian Billick opts for Boller despite his less than stellar on the field career at Cal.
