B.Albert (LT)

returning from IR
J.Cooper (OG)
A.Okafor (OLB)
S.Acho (OLB)

A lot of posters will likely dislike that I don't have a pass rusher in my mock, keep in mind that we will be adding two pass rushing OLB's to the 2013 roster by getting Acho and Okafor back from the IR.

1.) E.Ebron/J.Amaro/A.Sefarius-jenkins (TE) or J.Gilbert/D.Denard (CB).

A top tier TE would open this offense up immensely and BA makes no secret about how much he loves to use the TE. With our big WR's in Fitz and Floyd, if we could force the D to pay attention to a big time threat at TE, we would have options galore.

A top CB opposite PP21 with Honey Badger in the slot would allow our front 7 to pin their ears back and go. As good as the Defense is, the DB's need some help.

2.) Z.Mettenberger - LSU (QB) - 6'5" 230lbs - Top 15 talent and one of the top rated passers in the country with 10.4 Yards per attempt, and did it against SEC defenses. Likley to slide in the draft due to torn ACL. Sit him behind Palmer for a year or two.

3.) A.Williams - Boston College (RB) - 6'0" 227lbs Leading rusher in the nation, he's a mack truck with feet. Perfect compliment to A.Ellington

4.) C.Loston - LSU (SS) - 6'2" 210lbs good size/speed (4.50/40), coverage skills and LOVES to hit.

5.) J.Huff - Oregon (WR) - 5'11" 205 lbs - Over 18 Yards/reception, runs a 4.4 40 and is use to playing the slot. Deep threat.

6.) S.Heanderson - Miami (OT) - Take a flyer on an uber talented 6'7" 345LB. tackle that needs to get his head on straight to stay on a roster

Terrible. First off getting Branden Albert in FA is just wishful thinking. There is no way we can afford him considering he will be expecting mucho dollars.

Taking a TE in the first is just ridiculous. There are so many more important holes on this team that they need to fix before they worry about TE (OT, OLB, S, QB, etc.)

Dennard will not be available to us at 20 and Gilbert may not be either. But regardless what value do they gain from drafting a CB in the first? They already invested some money in Powers and he has played pretty well as of late. I think they will take a CB in the draft but probably not in the early rounds.

And seriously Mettenberger? This dude just tore his acl and you want to spend a second rounder on him? He has poor pocket poise and zero ability to evade the rush. His ceiling in the NFL is Carson Palmer who we already have so why waste a pick on this dude? It would be like getting rid of all the progress we have made with Palmer and in return putting a rookie at the helm who has as much upside as Palmer. I want to take a QB that has more upside than Palmer and Mettenberger simply does not. There is nothing he offers that Palmer doesn't already have.

I can't speak on any of the later round picks but there is no way Seantrel Heanderson lasts until the 6th round.

According to Mike Jurecki, you are incorrect about B.Albert. And yes, I am very familiar with our cap situation. I'll assume that Jurecki is much more familiar with it that you or I.[

I would plan on starting Palmer the next two years while grooming Mettenberger

What would your plan be at QB?

Also, your thoughts that a top tier TE would be a bad idea is ignoring how important a TE is in BA's offense.

If a talent like V.Burfict can go undrafted for far fewer issues than Henderson has had, then yes, he absolutely could

Your response is way off base.

The Cards can afford Albert, easily. They can structure a contract in a variety of ways to make it work cap-wise.

Taking a TE like Ebron is a distinct possibility and he would be a great fit. The offense, assuming they sign a LT, is missing 2 ingredients, a receiving threat at TE and a speed burner in the slot.

Calling Mettenberger a young Palmer is a compliment. You realize CP was the overall #1 pick the draft don't you? Drafting a QB with more upside than CP had will be tough. Getting that kind of talent in mid-round 2 is great value. Plus, Mettenberger wouldn't be taking over for Palmer until about 2016. What QB do you want that offers more than Palmer because Bridgewater is about it. And don't even think to say Manziel.

As for CB's, you can never have enough of them and I don't see how having Jeraud Powers on the team is a reason to pass up a top notch CB.

Seantreal Henderson may not even get drafted. He's been suspended numerous times and is a complete head case, although he is talented.

Keep in mind the only CB's under contract for 2014 are PP21 and Powers (only 1 year left on each of their contracts). We have zero CB's under contract after 2014. In a league where your 3rd CB is essentially a starter, that's REALLY bad.

I'm not saying it's impossible that we sign Albert to a big contract I'm just saying it's not practical and realistic. This link tells you everything you need to know about our cap situation: http://overthecap.com/calculator/?Team=Cardinals

And as for Mettenberger sitting out a season or two, I remember Keim stating that you don't take a QB early in the draft and sit him out for the season. That's not how today's NFL works. I'm not sure if he'll stick with what he said last year but my belief is that his philosophy has remained the same.

And I said this earlier: What does Mettenberger offer that Carson Palmer doesn't already have? Even if you sit him down for a season and he learns the playbook better than Carson what is it that he can do that Palmer can't? Just watch tape of him. He remains me of Carson. He has a big arm, makes a gutsy great throw at times, throws bad INTs and can't evade the rush. I also imagine his torn acl just makes him more of a non-runner than he already was.

For the QBOTF I want a guy that can extend plays. Palmer has done it occassionally (ex: 3rd down floater in Tennessee) but rarely. Look at Russell Wilson. A large part of his success in the NFL is due to his ability to evade the rush and just make a spectacular play out of what should've been a 10 yard sack. That's the future of NFL QBs.

The first prospect that comes to mind that can do this is Johnny Manziel. He has character issues but I think Bruce is the right coach to straighten this kid out and turn him into a somewhat grounded individual. I love that he is great at throwing on the run from both directions. I don't know if there is a player in the NFL that is better than Manziel at that. But he also can make throws from the pocket just as well. He does at times though get too greedy and make stupid throws but he is already great at looking off LBs, baiting safeties, etc. I think he is very capable of reading NFL defenses at the line and making sensational plays. It's also worth noting that Bickley says Manziel is the No. 1 QB on the Cardinals Big Board. I'm not sure how true that statement is but that's what Bickley said on 12 Sports after the game.

My favorite QB prospect is Blake Bortles out of UCF but I don't think the Cardinals will have a shot at him unless they trade up. Bortles is a more traditional NFL QB. He has slighly above average arm, great accuract but also great athleticism. I think he'll be a great QB at the NFL. I also really like Derek Carr out of Fresno State but again Cardinals will most likely have to trade up for him if they want to get him. I think he is the prototypical Bruce Arians QB. He has great size at 6'3" 220 lbs. and a cannon of an arm. This guy threw the ball 70 yards downfield in a game a few weeks ago. He had a really bad showing in his bowl game against USC though. He just struggled to make reads and didn't look sharp. He looked flustered in the pocket but I think Bruce can make him a great NFL QB.

People that are in such a huge hurry to write off Manziel because of the last two games of the season are making a mistake. Word on the street is that after he hurt his shoulder in the Auburn game, he barely practiced after that due to the injury. I still think he will be the best QB to come out of this draft, unless he pulls a stunner and goes back to college.

I'm not basing my opinion on the last 2 games. I have not been a fan of him as an NFL QB from the start. He was beaten up in college. Just imaging what the pounding of dealing pro lineman will do to him.

There's no doubt that he's a great college QB but I think he'll have a short lived NFL career. What's he going to do when, because of injury and the pounding his body takes, he's relegated to a pocket passer? He'll probably be alot like Mike Vick but without the blazing speed. He'll have some nice games/years but will spend much of his career on the injured list.

I like it. Similar to my mock draft below. I'm up in the air between an OT like Hurst or one of the RBs that may be available in the 3rd. Doubt Henderson would fall to the 6th but you never know, that would be a steal.

If Bortles or Manziel are there at 20, I pounce. I'm going to assume that neither will be though.

Derek Carr, I would run far far away from. I think he'll be a bigger bust than his brother. He played in a dink and dunk offense against poor quality opponents. His completion percentage is impressive, but when you're throwing one screen after the next, that's not difficult to do. His 7.7 Yards per attempt, which ranks 42nd in NCAAF is very telling. The only legit D he played was USC when he looked completely lost and had a 4.0 Yard per attempt average. Lets put that into perspective, if he threw 30 passes, he'd have 120 yards passing. If all we're looking for is 4 yards a play, lets axe the QB all together, throw in an extra OL and run every play. Can you say Matt Leinart aka captain checkdown.

Regarding Mettenbergers inability to run, Im fine with it. See Kurt Warner. I don't subscribe to the "modern QB" BS, a QB's #1 job is to throw the football, I think all too often that is over looked for "athletic ability". The way Id scout QB's would be to ask myself ,"if a QB was not allowed to run beyond the LOS, could he still play in this league?" If the answer to that question is yes AND he can run, GREAT, added bonus for him. But I would never allow a QB's "athletic ability" compensate for an inability to throw a football. See Peyton Manning.

Well, saying the Cardinals can afford Albert "easily" is just off-base. Refer to the link I posted above for our cap situation. We've got some players to re-sign and probably will extend Peterson. He has a couple years left on his rookie contract but generally after their third year, top-tier draft picks receive an extension. If the Cardinals want to ensure that Peterson stays a Cardinal long term it'd be wise that they extend him this offseason. That will result in more money against the cap for 2014. It's possible that the Cardinals sign Albert but don't get your hopes up.

And yes taking a TE early would be fine if they get their LT of the future and the TE is the BPA. If that's not the case give me an OT, OLB, S, CB.

Where did I call Mettenberger a "young" Carson Palmer? I said he was Carson Palmer meaning Carson Palmer right now. Carson was a #1 overall pick that's great. While we're at it let's mention how Russell Wilson was a 3rd round pick and Brady was a 6th round pick. Carson's not that #1 overall pick QB right now. Also you're forgetting I said his ceiling in the NFL is where Carson Palmer is at right now meaning he could be a step down from Palmer. I really don't think he is capable of being any better of that. Watch his tape and tell me what makes you think he merits a second round pick. And also specifically what he can do that Carson can't do.

I agree that a top-notch CB would be a fine pick in the first but I don't know if the value will be there. The Cardinals may be in a spot where they miss out on all the blue-chip CBs but are at a spot that is too early to take any of the remaining CBs.

Henderson has had problems but he is too good of a player to drop to round 6

He can be taught to slide in the NFL. It's really not difficult to install that mindset in a QB (Mike Shanahan's an idiot). Also it's not like the Cardinals would call all of the QB draws he ran at A&M. I think he'd be similar to Russell Wilson but more explosive and taking more risks. I think Bruce wouldn't call for a designed run for Johnny. He'd get his rushing yards from scrambling out of the pocket on a broken play and making something out of nothing. He can stay healthy throughout the NFL if he is used properly under the right offensive coordinator.

Well, Vick has been around so long now, he's almost a different era of QB. I'd compare Manziel more to Russell Wilson and RGIII. Yes, there is a certain element of risk in drafting him, but there is with everybody. But there are two very strong assets Manziel has: 1) He's damn smart, and reads defenses at an NFL QB level already and 2) the guy loves to compete. He could've shut it down after the injury in the Auburn game (It was that bad, his shoulder was black.) to protect his draft status. Instead, he played with pain. That's why his teammates would run through a brick wall for this "spoiled" kid.

I agree with everything you said. Many people over look his ability to read defenses. He's pretty good at it but he can pay for it when gets too greedy and throws an INT. I like that he's willing to take risks though he just needs to be smarter about it.

Also to discuss what you talked about on his character, I genuinely think he's a great teammate. From watching how interacts with his guys on the field and also from how he talks about them in post game interviews, I don't think he's selfish. He's a competitor and cares more about winning than anything. I'm just worred about if he can keep his mout shut off the field and not do anything stupid and also gain respect from the guys in the locker room. Can he be the leader of an NFL team? That's what it's going to come down to if he wants to be a great QB at the next level.

I have to question anybody's assertion as to which QB's are good at reading defenses. None of us know that. Most college QB's are 1 read QB's. I think about the only one in recent memory that was not a 1 read QB was Luck and that's because he had Harbaugh running the show.

I don't know how good Manziel is at reading defenses but I know, from watching on TV, that they don't run a complex offenses. I haven't seen enough of UCLA but I've read that they run somewhat of a pro style offense.

I think with Cameron at LSU, they ran more of a pro style passing game this year. Penn St. is another team that leaned toward a pro style offense too.

I think A&M runs a similar system to Baylor, which is more of a 1 read offense.

IMO, Methenberger's injury is the only way that we might have a shot at him in the second round. And even with the injury I doubt that he'll be available then. There's a possibility that we go after him in the first round.

Brandon Albert has to be the Cardinals #1 target in free agency after taking care of their own FAs IMO. Left tackle is at the top of the to-do list for Steve Keim this offseason and the chances of getting one at #20 overall are slim and none. B.A. and B.A. would make an awesome couple.

I wonder if Eric Winston will be re-signed by the Cardinals, and if so, if he has any influence with Brandon Albert. I'm not saying, I'm just saying. ;)

If the Cardinals don't sign a FA left tackle I wonder if they would try to put together a package for one of the Rams !st round picks? Improbable but not impossible.

A lot of posters will likely dislike that I don't have a pass rusher in my mock, keep in mind that we will be adding two pass rushing OLB's to the 2013 roster by getting Acho and Okafor back from the IR.

If Acho has proven anything thus far it is he isn't a great pass rusher. Okafor is a 4th rd pick that didn't show much pass rush ability in the preseason. Old Abe is very good but we need more pass rushers.

SK has several tough decisions to make this offseason. If he can get Albert in FA that would be great but at what cost to other positions on the team. Los and Shaughnessy are keepers and key players to the D's success this year.

I agree that TE is a major need.

I wait for Mettenberger until the 3rd or maybe even 4th rd. If someone drafts him before that then so be it.

I retain the right to change my mind many more times as we have a combine and FA period to experience and gain knowledge from.

The only thing Manziel has in common with Wilson is that they are both short. Wilson is thicker, has a better arm, and is a smarter player in terms of both avoiding mistakes and hits. Manziel is similar to RGIII in terms of how they both use their feet and the big hits they both take. One thing to consider is that Manziel is shorter and lighter than RGIII with a weaker arm. Manziel will get broken in the NFL unless he totally changes how he uses his mobility.

I don't love the later rounds but I can see your first two rounds playing out.

I like it. Forget Henderson. Lazy piece of sloth mung. All world dimensions with no desire to be serious.

I read a report on the internet that the Browns owner Jimmy Haslam loves

Johnny Football. He has alrady declared I think

Sometimes I just say a whispered thank you that Keim is in charge of the team and making the decisions.

He said he is not making a decision until after the Bowl Game, which is tomorrow.
